just wondering what are good ratios for tricks in general like kids wheelies ect i have a 46th chain ring that i just got so wat th cog should i get 16 maybe ?

46/16 is 75gi which is probably a lot higher than most people use for general pottering around. The people with legs of power will probably correct me now.
It also only gives you 8 skid patches. Theres no way in hell i could get a bike with that gearing up swains lane.
I know fuck all about tricks so others will probably correct me but if you've got a 46t ring then i'd prob go with a 19t which gives you 64.8gi on 28mm tyres. Easier on the knees(assuming you are new to fixed) with good acceleration and 19 skid patches. On the other hand this may be a little bit spinny for general riding. No doubt if you read all 9 pages of this thread your question has been asked and answered already.Flame suit on for when the trixidix correct me.

Now now Ed, stepping up like that on something you're very inexperienced at!!
I rode 44x18 (65.4 GI) when I started riding trix and I really liked it. I now think it's a little easy. I'm currently riding round on 50x19 (70.4 GI) which is maybe a little hard for tricks, or perhaps ok but not for me when I started.
46x18 (68.4 GI) might be just about right to potter around town on but still be able to pop a wheelie. It'll make a huge amount of difference if you're back wheel is as far forward as possible. Mine is about 2-3mm away from the frame. Also some nice 2-3" risers and an upturned stem will help you pulling the front end up.
There are also a few people out there riding trick bikes on high 70's GI and that's to get more speed for tricks like wall rides and generally more bmx style tricks. If you're starting then it's easier on the mid-high 60s GI.

Haha opinion fully based on teenage bmx experience inexpertly applied to fixed riding.
Meh.
Unless i could have a full on trick bike i'd want something i could potter and trick with. So yeah, what phil said, get an 18 or a 19 or summat.I'll shut up now.

47/16 on my daily ride.. Still thinking of going from 165mm to 170mm though
-

Was 64GI (39/16)
Then 69GI (42/16)
Now 74GI (42/15)

I'm riding my first ever single speed after a lifetime of multi-gears. Its 52 front and 13 back. Takes some shifting when starting on a hill, but lovely passing most other people on a nice long straight. Hills are becoming less taxing as my thighs increase in diameter.
Only thing, its a little less agile than I'm used to when darting through static traffic.Gonna build me a fixie next - got the frame and the BB all ready to go.
-
• #788
Its not very agile because you're pushing about 106 GI,
I'm surprised you can get up a hill at all, you must have thighs thicker than my abdomen. -

Stock 48/15, haven't really thought of changing yet.

i've been riding about 69 gi for about a year now and reckon its the one, but since my new whip is a lot lighter and stiffer (believe it or not) than my old steel bike i reckon its time to raise the gi a bit -im spinning alot more-, i was thinking about 74/75ish
-
• #791
Its all about 74 GI

I love being in a spinny gear 46/19!
If i go much faster then 25mph i spin out, but thats not an issue since in traffic in london i rarely need or can go much faster then that, i like how it allows for great acceleration, and also allows me to slow down quickly.

48/18 soon to be a 17...
Fuck me! That rabbit-java-widget-me-do tells me that with my current setup I get just 3 skid patches! That 17 cog's gonna save my tyre's life!

I don't know about wheelies i've never tryed. The bigger the sprocket the easer the gear so yes of course 21 will be easier.

I got a 34 front chainring and 18 cog on back of my MTB. Fine for going on the mountain trails. What would be a good gear for going on the road with? Its my bike in my photo album. Any help appreciated. Wheels are 26" and tyres are skinny ones.

Depends on your roads and your legs innit?
~70" around London.
This one is all you need:
