• hippy's front wheel last week after trusting in Jeebus;

  • Shit, Continental fail. Can't be hippy's wheel.

  • Good point. They did actually but in reference to roads as far as I can remember. I think freeze-thaw was covered in A-Level geography as well. I was just wondering if there is more to it than that and if it can be avoided or 'designed for'.

GCSE geography actually, don't remember it in the A-levels one.

  • Why does Hippy hate conti's so much? I have never had a problem with them...

  • Cos they are shit, innit.

  • I have a HOLE lot of questions to ask about potholes, maybe someone could FILL ME IN?

    ^fucking genius

    :D

  • Cos they are shit, innit.

    Ahh, ok...?

  • Shit, Continental fail. Can't be hippy's wheel.

On the contrary.. I have a Conti on my bike right now.

  • They are shit.

  • But I wouldn't want to be acused of not knowing what I'm talking about.

  • So I'm riding this, since it came with the wheel.

  • I know. You're preaching to the choir here. Crappy, crappy tyres.

  • Shit, Continental fail. Can't be hippy's wheel.

It only failed when hippy ride them, so yep, it's his wheel.

  • oh dear.
    pass the popcorn.

    Need I say any more?

Does this actually work? I can see me filling the online form a few time in the near future:)

  • Oops, just noticed my flagrant typo. Thread title should read "Why...".

  • damnit, that was a perfect opener for me to get back at you!

  • BBC breakfast reported recently that some local councils will consider not filling in potholes, rather identifying them as traffic calming measures.. what say I don't bother paying my council tax bill, rather spend it on repairs to my bike you fools..

i am probably not the only one, but before the recent cold snap I knew every pothole / loose drain cover / poor road surface between home, site and work, almost blindfold..

the roads conditions have definately worsen this week with some shocking surprises about..

    take care people..

  • Traffic calming measures?! I bet someone is patting themselves on the back for that one...

  • BBC breakfast reported recently that some local councils will consider not filling in potholes, rather identifying them as traffic calming measures..

And its not even the first of april!

  • Hackney was always bad, but it's quite bumpy in a few places. I didn't really think about the ice and snow, but yes that explains it.

  • Fair enough i guess if i dont get any money back from the council (not expecting anything).

I think i was more pissed off at the time and will just pay for a new rim and get it rebuilt. Guess thats the problem of cycling at 6am everyday when youre tired and its dark...

  • Pavements are all rickety and uneven now too......well, worse then they were

  • The recent weather has only highlighted what has been an ongoing problem for a number of years and that is a lack of investment in an already crumbling road network, particularly in the South east ( and else where I'm sure). Roads that have been topped dressed with a coat of tarmac only serve to cover up underlying problems that snow and ice have now uncovered. In my area around Tonbridge/Tunbridge Wells (Kent) we still have potholes that are left over from last years bad weather.
So whats the answer? well more investment by local councils to fix the problems but they haven't got the money or so they keep telling us in the mean time we all have to take even more care out on the roads much to the disgust of car driving non bikers who wonder why we are sat in the middle of the road or weaving our way through pothole hell.
Is now the time for all cyclists, clubs, forums, LBS, and the bigger chains to join together in a national campaign to get Government and Borough/Town councils to fix the roads properly so we can ride without damage to ourseleves or indeed our bikes.

    Just a thought
