• Hi All,

First day back commuting today after the ice and i hit a large pothole which has ruined my brand new PX rear wheel rim and put my front wheel out of true.

Not much i could have done in the situation, car on the right of me and nowhere to go...

Ive heard of drivers claiming for new wheels from the local councils after potholes have destroyed their wheels, but where do us cyclists stand? I have a spare wheel so am using this in the meantime, but 50 miles out of a brand new wheel and now its FUBAR; im pretty pissed off.

You stand in the exact same position as a car driver whose car has been damaged by a defective road surface.
Take a photo of the offending pothole (with a tape measure pictured to show the depth) and your damaged wheel and contact the Highways Department of your local authority with full details of the circumstances.
Chances are the hole will then be filled in within less than 24 hours of your notification, so keep copies of your evidence...
