  • Can't you see how selfish that is? The other day I was watching that programme on C4 about the slums in Mumbai, it was an amazing watch. And then ad breaks offering expensive cars, phones, more cars, properties.

I find it uncomfortable to know that people do not have the basics while I bathe in luxury. Am I the only one? The more luxury we have, the less basics other people have. I can't just shrug my shoulders "I can buy what I want it is MY money".

To my earlier point, Ratan Tata, the head of the Tata empire still keeps his office in the middle of Mumbai, drives the Tata equivalent of a Mondeo and gives a huge portion of his money to charity. However, the 1000 dollar car he is producing which helps to mobilise people and pull them out of poverty will create a huge amount of pollution, these sales, in comparison to a tiny percentage of rich people driving supercars (will) have a massive effect on the environment.

It could be argued that buying an expensive, mostly hand made vehicle from a niche company which does not advertise (supercar brands don't) and supports the local area with employment is far better for the environment than buying a cheap one made with little thought given to material sourcing, manufacturing process or the labour used to ensure it is affordable.
