Definitely agree, like I said, it's a great idea in theory, it just doesn't seem to work in practice.
People are greedy and selfish. It's human nature.

The more luxury we have, the less basics other people have
Query - someone goes out and buys a luxurious consumer good, e.g. a biro, how does that deprive a family living in a Mumbai slum?
Or is your argument that if resources had no value attached, then everyone would have their fair share?
-
• #1154
That's where we are wrong, human nature is kind otherwise we would kill each other daily and most of us have survived very well so far so it is not just down to our merit. We just think we are more important than next door, that is all.

Neither do I.
You ignored the point about car manufacturers and their false advertising though.
I think false advertising is a bit harsh, optimistic maybe, but then again, what advertising isn't? Considering it's primary role is to get money out of people.

A biro is a luxurious consumer good?
-
• #1157
Which is what they want you to think whereas the facts are a lot of cyclists have cars too. I own a car.. just not in this country.
So, if I bought a Ferrari, that alone would turn be into a (bigger) cock?
-
• #1158
compared to a piece of chalk... maybe
But I meant of the Montblanc, etc variety, i.e. it's still just a biro

No, it's not believable that they find a quiet country lane.
It's not believable that they have empty streets in a city.
It's not believable that some guy pulls a chick whilst he drives a bright yellow 1L hatchback.
It's not believable that most people buying a 4x4 will ever actually use it off-road.
and on and on.. ad infinitum... car makers are selling people lies.Have you ever been to the country?

It might. Who's to say?
What do you think the general population would think of you if you drove around in a Ferrari?
-

Have you ever been to the country?
No. It's full of cunts speeding in supercars.
-

Because cars cause far more harm than TVs and houses..
Also on this point, have you seen how much work is required to build a house? Construction machinery running for hours on end throwing polloution out constantly, now think how much more is thrown out for houses that are much bigger than required and tell me they don't do any harm.
-

No. It's full of cunts speeding in supercars.
Who said anything about speeding? It's quite easy to enjoy driving along country lanes without speeding.

Get real. People live in their houses. And it's basically a one-off pollution 'cost'.
Are you seriously trying to justify supercars by complaining about building houses?
You've been sniffing methanol too long. -

People who know something about cars might appreciate it depending on which Ferrari I got, people who get jealous easily might think I was a cock, people who are against pollution might like me more than the guy driving the Audi behind me, people who are against spending too much money will be busy complaining about people who own private jets. So I guess it depends.
Though to be honest, I couldn't care what any of them thought.

Sorry, but, if I had a super car on some awsome country lanes (that I knew) I would almost definatly be speeding. Sometimes I really miss having a car and living in the country.

Why own a supercar then?
Realistically, more of an issue in the lanes for me is pricks in Land Rovers. And yes, they are often speeding.

You've been sniffing methanol too long.If you read my posts again, you'll see I have no problem with people living in houses, in fact, they're probably the best places to live (Ferraris excluded). My point was houses that are much bigger than they need to be. Right, so one off pollution costs are fine, so why are manufactures targeting their methods of manufacturing even more than the cars emissions themselves? I mean, it's just a one-off, can't do that much harm can it?

Easier said than done, to be fair. My Polo's hit 100 on the lanes, so I hate to think what I'd manage in something that actually moves.

Though I agree with you on 4x4s that are never intended to be used off-road and are bought because they'll be better off in a crash.

Interesting, people can speed in economical cars? Wow, I wonder how much pollution they're putting out then...

Excess in house size is still excess. The same as leaving all your lights on.. or wasting water.
But, a house is constructed once. It doesn't keep polluting. It doesn't run over people.
What are the C02 emissions for the constructing of a house versus a car? Then what are the ongoing emissions? Remembering people NEED shelter.. they don't NEED cars. -

Hardly economical, it's a '98 one and I get about 35mpg. Although I guess that's more than the 8 or so that an Aston or Lambo kick out.
Well yes, that's what I am trying to do now. You will find that it is much more rewarding than having the best things you can afford. And you would also do the same if your friends were in need.
