i don't really get this GT to be honest... i have a separate 29er with 2.0 schwalbe big apples for this sort of riding... sorry if i'm missing something :)
I'm only 5'8, too short to ride a 29er!

A photoshoping of my Mercier project... Now and after state...Blah blah blah... Loic
Actually, after seing other pictures on the web, the original transfers of the bike are not the ones that I will go for... Instead I will use the more commun "boxy" letters of Mercier, as per Poulidor's track bike:

Worth trying drops and fixed off road, guessing your 29er has flats/risers and is not fixed?
Completely different experience. I would take a much lighter tyre than the on the GT as they are not going to give much grip over a smaller tyre as they are not off road tyres to start with but like the idea. The 25c tyres I use are not always the most comfortable although I make do with the grip they provide!

@JCaprani - please don't get me wrong! like the looks, but drops with 2.5" tyres = strange looks IMHO
re: short for 29er - popular misconception :) i'm 6", and ride 17" 29er, i'm more than positive they produce them in significantly smaller sizes... :)
height thing was a (lame) joke. I really love the Amaro Lollobrigida but it's way too expensive and I wanted to do something similar. found a gt frame walking home one day and I had a project. i def see why it wouldn't appeal but i'm having lots of fun with it, will know better after a few months of riding.

spot on kerley :)
i was thinking of going "fixed", but for the bars - probably just try my easton delta alu bullhorns - i just don't seem to have any OS drops available :)

I find shallow drop 'compact' bars to be very good. I picked up some FSA ones for just over £20 last year (below). Getting your head down off road is great fun and feels twice as fast as on risers/flats (possibly doesn't actually make any real difference but that's not the point!)
Have just moved back to drops and now realise what a mistake the risers were.http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/FSA_Omega_Alloy_Compact_Road_Handlebars/5360036373/

2 words: fash ion.
when this fixie fixie fixie twatery started, everyone used skinny tyres, now it's all about having a mountain bike lookalike without gears, suspension, brakes or handlebars. It should make for less punctures on the hipster hepcat highway.

Just come back from a ride nr. Bristol and my 2.5" Hookworms (see John's bike above) are now lying in the back garden. Not only do they double the weight of the bike, but they are worse than useless on anything icy. To add insult to injury I tried to take them off with cold hands when I got back and nearly ended up crying cos it took so long.
Can't understand why I have so many pairs of tyres but they're never the right ones....

That sounds good, why don't you start a thread in rides & races. Put me on the list.

They are for dropping stair sets and hitting the skatepark.
Very specific tyre which works well for it's application. -

"They are for dropping stair sets and hitting the skatepark.
Very specific tyre which works well for it's application."I know, they normally live live on my DMR which I use for dropping (or should that read "frequently falling headfirst") down flights of stairs. They're more than fit for purpose in this capacity (tho' you need to be careful hiting up anything metal and wet). The Trailstar is built like a tank and pre-Xmas I was about thirteen stone so I tend not to notice the extra weight of the tyres. It's only when I put them on my Gary Fisher ss that I remember why I don't normally buy steel bead tyres. However the extra effort probably isn't doing me any harm after the cheese and alcohol binge that was Xmas, and getting them on and off the rims probably uses several hundred more calories!
Need another fork?
Saw one recently.
Don't remember if it was a road or CX fork, but both will work.
