Well happy new year to you lot.
Any more thoughts on a cheaper pub with a better drinks selection that will actually look after us when all the people who attend spend there hard earned dosh? -
• #6980
the flask in hampstead! oh wait, that isn't any cheaper or better....

contraversial JD, but duley noted. You only need to spend one night at the Greyhound to know we have the wrong pub

Maybe it is. But i do know there are other people not attending due the the pubs price and lack of service etc. Nothing to do with location.

Cone spanners? Not me I'm afraid. Could do with a Campagnolo bottom bracket though.
Anyone? -
• #6986
+1 on a better pub, never been to Easts but at Wests and Souths the pubs definitely look after us. It is a great location though, murder yourself getting up Swains then murder a pint right at the top!

Apart from the faltering fullback (which ain't really North in my book, though it can be rowdy) do any of you others have any suggestions for alternative pubs? We can all bitch and moan about the situation but if you ain't happy at least list some alternatives you want to try.

[DISCLAIMER: it's a bit rich of me to but in since I only made it to one session of north drinks in 2009, but as a local I thought I'd suggest a couple of good options if you are really thinking of changing venue... and since I plan on making at least one appearance in 2010, I suppose I have a teeny vested interest.]
anyway, not far from (the bottom of) Swain's Lane you might want to consider both The Star (Chester Rd NW5) and The Dartmouth Arms (York Rise NW5). Lots of nice beers/ales/ciders, also good food (though the Star's grub tends to be on pricey side, the DA is more reasonable - & very decent burgers).
The DA hosted the Rollapaluza CC Christmas bash, and staff was very accommodating. We'd booked out the back room, and they let us take in our 20-ish bikes so we didn't have to worry about locking them up outside. Not saying they'll do that on a normal night, obviously, just pointing out that they are a mighty welcoming bunch. Over and out.

It isnt really that expencive. They let you pay on card for 1 drink. Prices and service isnt the reason people dont come up the hill. The hill is the reason. HTFU and all that. I am also going to start booking out the end room for us to use for the winter.

It is with some disgust that I have read the recent postings with regards moving North Drinks.
North Drinks is at the Flask, other pubs might exist, but they are not where North Drinks is held.
It feels like we are being infected with the same procrastination seen on the SE Drinks thread. I will not stand for it.

Asuming we are expecting a decent turn out tomorrow I will book out an area of the pub. It will be a bit shit though if I do that and no one turns up.

Happy 2010 Northies.
Anyone doing the bridges on Sat? Want to meet up and roll westwards together? Meet in the Black Bull at the foot of the hill?
-
• #6997
I was playing devils advocate.
A pint of ale is about 3.30 or summit I think. Which is the same as at easts and souths.
Reasons to stay at the flask:
- Awesome climb to the top
- Great garden with loads of space
- They don't mind bikes in the garden (unless we block the secret trap door)
- Outdoor smoking heaters for us healthy folk
- Bryce's Girlfriend
- Friendly barstaff
- Pay for one beer by card
- Close to the king of pizzaa
- Downhill all the way home
Now if you can beat the list for reasons against the flask then be my guest
- Awesome climb to the top

Reasons to stay at the flask:
[*]Bryce's
GirlfriendwifeBryan, you'll be happy to know that she has managed to deal with the trauma of you leaving and has returned to her position of employment at The Flask.
Mattty, could well be up for rolling down to Kew from North. Who else is coming along?
seem to remember you lending them to someone, was it lolo?
