  • go to bed Oliver! practice in the morning.
happy new years yogis and yoginis, Shiva Power in 2010!

  • Good point Oliver, there won't be a class on the 18th February.

    See you on the 7th!

  • tolasana.
    the ultimate.

  • is there anything like this south of the river?

  • undoubtedly. as the old saying goes "when the student is ready, the teacher will appear"
check your local press for leisure centre-other classes.
also British Wheel of Yoga website should reveal some in your area.
    good luck.

  • greetings all,

Just a reminder that the next yfc course starts ce soir. Details on first thread entry.

damo - I would be interested in teaching a class south of the river. I volunteer at 56a crampton st (near elephant) weekly which is frequented by mostly cyclists and certainly many people have made the same inquiry. I just need to find a place to teach it, so if you can think of anywhere, let me know.

Tolasana (scale pose) definitely part of the strengthening programme! Brilliant core muscle, arm, back and wrist strengthener. Although padmasana (lotus) is not necessarily recommended for those with knee injuries. So for those who initially struggle, try it with legs in ardha padmasana (half lotus), or place a block or book under each hand to increase length of arms and lift of legs...

  • bogue, at a loss to think of where....

  • Greetings all,

No worries damo, will keep an eye out and let you know if anything comes up!

Have written a post 'Why is yoga good for cyclists' on www.wintercoaching.co.uk. Have a read if you're interested!

    peas...

  • Rebecca, that URL doesn't work--are you sure that's right?

  • oops, thanks for pointing out Oliver - www.wintertraining.co.uk!

  • Oh very interesting. I have lost massive amounts of strength since stopping Pilates, but i couldn't afford the hourly rate. shame its out east

  • er veevee recommended the buddist centre in clapham?

  • he he he he, tattooed weight lifter yogi in padmasana, and his hair is on fire! quick someone call the fire brigade him forget to put out his spliff!

  • more like it.
    sleek.
    and powerful.

  • Allo all,

Thanks for reading greasy slag!Indeed, Pilates is also a great core strengthener. Were you practicing with machines? The mat classes are certainly cheaper and there are plenty around... Alternatively, maybe practice at home?

As for classes in the East, I would ideally like to be teaching a class in north, south and west london too. Just need to find the time to investigate spaces! Meanwhile, if anyone can think of anywhere, let me know.

Damo, have you tried the Buddhist centre in Clapham yet?

Great interpretation of chosen image *m.f! Indeed, I too was surprised by this particular choice!

If any of listen to the bikeshow, I was guest on Monday with physiotherapist Michael Crebbin who specialises in cyclists. I'm not convinced I did a great job, but Michael was impressive. Gets played again this sat - eek!

  • I am a firm believer that using your own body weight is the best way of gaining strength without unneccessary bulk, and that as a virtuoso practises scales daily, so should we practise basics like Chaturanga dandasana daily, regardless of how advanced the other parts of our routines are.

What is the bike show Bogue? will check it out if I am around when it is on.

  • I'm interested to hear if anyone finds anything or starts anything south of the river. Just been thinking about starting yoga today so I found this thread.

  • i should point out, i don't interact with sky wizards.

  • the sky wizards don’t last the course Damo.
if you mean people who are 'like that' that’s to say into anything alternative.

  • good.i see the benefits of yoga. i don't believe in 5000 year old mumbo jumbo about waking up ley lines or massaging liver toxins that may be associated with it.
it's strengthening, it allows you to clear your mind, it allows you to increase your flexibility. these are good things.

  • The liver toxins are a new invention not 5000 (?!)year old mumbo jumbo. The aim of yoga was/is to produce meditation masters and realise the truth of consciousness.
That is slightly more difficult than clearing your body toxins.

  • right then. we're agreed. no sky wizards and no liver toxin people.

  • they all practice qikung though :)

  • don’t know anything about chi gong (see I cant even spell it) other than its a Chinese discipline. to me describing yoga I like to use the analogy of a SLR camera, focusing the lense until everything comes into pin sharp accuracy, the body and mind totally present, poised and observant.breathing, watching, everything including passing thoughts.
people get really funny about different classes, specially in london, this is yoga, that isnt yoga etc. P.Jois (r.i.p) said something like 99% practice 1%theory.that’s it.
if you were there, really there.that’s yoga.
