I think I might have read some Sillitoe at university but have no clear memory of the books. I suspect they will feel dated now but if you read one let me know.
I'm going to maintain my bid to widen this thread to include non fiction. And even books you don't read but look at; never seen a copy of Robert Frank's The Americans? Or Tim Pages' Nam or Susan Meiselas' Nicaragua or Don McCullin's Hearts Of Darkness or James Nachtwey's Inferno? Or anything by Weegee? Just as deserving of attention as anything mentioned so far and just as much a vital part of any auto-didact's reading list.
