But track ends are attached to chainstays. It all adds up. And I'd rather be operating at the shorter wheelbase end of things, not that it fucking matters, judging by Reg Harris's clearances.

Oh right, so my suggestion was not relevant.
I think you need to move the wheel 1/8" for every tooth difference in the sprockets*, so for a 2 tooth difference you would need 1/4" to allow for the adjustment you want, plus enough room to get the chain off (1/2 - 3/4"??). Obviously you'd need to know the length of the track ends in the first place... Pifko?*This may be completely wrong.

@ pifko: are they truvativ omnium cranks? are you having trouble with the cranks clearing the chainstay?
No probs here. You might have probs on a road conversion as the stays will flair (?) out to 126/130mm as opposed to 120mm. Negligible really...

40mm

Just ordered a pre cursa myself. anybody know the correct BB lenght to order? is it 103mm?
Also, what do y'all think of sizing down on the frame since I'm only using it for the road? does the 'compact geometry' make this unnecessary? I'm 6ft but ordered a 54 instead of my normal 56.

The BB length depend on the crankset you'll use.

you have ordered the wrong size.
The bike needs to fit, wherever you ride it.

+1 spagetthi hoops is 5"2 and rides a 54 cancel your order and get a bigger bike

Oh and go and sit on the nughty step

Ok, have changed it to a 56. Just that the 56cm frame i'm on now feels a tiny bit big. But I'm sure a shorter reach stem can give me the riding position I'm after. Thanks for the advice.
I've ordered a 103mm BB and a Pake crankset. I'll post how I get on with the chainline setup

What's the TT length of your current 56cm) frame?
-
• #137
Excuse the delayed response. Frame hasn't arrived yet, Irish weather is nuts.
TT length of my current frame is 58cm. It's not too bad, probably a good fit really, but I reckon a smaller frame would take some weight off the wrists and make poppin up onto kerbs alot easier.
the 56cm dolan has a 565mm TT so hopin it will be spot on. -
• #138
weight of the wrists? I don't know but sound like either your frame is too short (i.e. body lean on bar), or the saddle is pushed far too forward.
-
• #139
agree, you get weight off the wrists by having the saddle further back so body doesn't fall forward as much. Unfortunately track frames make this worse by having a steep seat tube angle!

Looks like you made the right call but there is a lot more to consider than seat tube length before you can say he ordered the wrong frame. I have a 54cm cross frame and two 57cm road frames. they all fit because they have quite different angles and top tube lengths.

Hi guys,
I am 1.83 (6') got 85 (33.5inc) for my legs.
What do you recommend would fit me best:
54cm or 56cm?
Talking about a Dolan Pre Cursa Track!Cheers

• #142
56 or 58 i'd say. you'd have to be a strange shape to want a 54 at that height. i'm a similar size to you (a tiny bit smaller) and i got a 56 and it was fine.
-
• #143
i know, thats why i bought a 56, but did go to Brikelane yesterday and a hipster shop told me I should go 54cm.
Anyway will see when I get the frame, was just a bit wary. -

I'm 5'7" and I ride a 54cm - that's with a horizontal top tube, so I'd say you need bigger but with a compact design you can get away with the smaller seat tube - effective top tube length is more important.

I am 6' tall (1.83) riding usually 56cm/M.
What do you guys recommend for this frame?
Heard it was kinda small so thinking of getting a 58cm instead... -
• #147
how many dorra you found a frame for?

I'm 6'1, 34 inside leg and mine is a 60cm frame which fits me nicely with. Definitely not too big. Don't forget the frames are measured centre to top. (I'd be inclined to say the 58 is likely to fit you better).

im 6' and ride a 58 :)
What you're really interested in is how much adjustment in wheel position you can get with the different sprockets, so what matters is how long the track ends are.
My Dolan isn't a Pre-Cursa (it's the cheapie frame Ribble do) but it looks like it uses the same track ends. 40mm long.
