My bike got trashed on Friday evening locked up outside my flat. Didn't look like they made much attempt to cut the lock but did kick or twist the crap out of it so the frame is dented and the wheel is a write off which to taco a B43 is no mean feat! Totally mindless vandalism.
It was locked outside Meath House which is beside the Prince Regent in Herne Hill so if any of you guys where down there and saw anything then let me know as i am in the mood for some restorative justice.

locked up outside my flat = (recipe for) mindless vandalism.
OmarLittle, sadly, I live in an area where I KNOW that it would only be a matter of time (minutes or hours), till my bike also got trashed, having locked it up outdoors.
For this reason I can't take the chance, so instead have to put up with my partner's chargrin, at my bikes living indoors. I'm afraid as dogsballs says, "this is London my friend"........and I'm afraid his sentiment is right. The underclasses rule the night, and destruction of others' property, is the sport of choice.
If it makes you feel better, find the culprit and torture him/them. Or secure your next bike indoors. I prefer the latter.

Ah Omar, I'd been wondering who that bike belonged to... why did you leave it locked up outside? Ask the estate kids if they know anything?

Stupidity and a strange moment of positivity with the world and forgetting i actually live in SE London!
But seriously, its pretty damn quiet round here and you don't really see much by way of local asbo yoof hangin round so i think it was passers by rather than anyone from our block but hey it just goes to show that this town is not to be trusted!

• #3107
I've lived round there for years... there's always some little scrote out to nick things. The last time I had a wheel nicked round there, the kids on the school side of your block knew who they thought would have taken it. Anyway, sorry they fucked up your bike - they normally have a pair of bolt cropper down a JD Sports tracksuit leg.

Omar, Sorry to hear about your bike. Did you leave it out all night or just a few hours?
(I only ask , as the forum and this thread in particular is a good source of info on where and where not to leave my bike)

Just noticed this thread while I was googling some of the more suspicious Gumtree phone numbers (this one for starters, different e-mail address for every bike).
About a month ago, my partner lost his Giant SCR 1 road bike, which he had been using to commute while his regular commuter was getting a new fork. It's a distinctive yellow colour, 56cm, with after market Easton aero wheels, SPD pedals, cut-out saddle, compact drop bars and Ultegra crank. Also had a silver pannier rack on the back.He was pretty gutted -- it was stolen during the day right from under the guard's nose at the BBC at White City here. Not locked with a great lock, so lesson learned there.
Anyway, I've been scouring Gumtree and ebay ever since, hoping to catch it being sold. Noticed a hell of a lot of dodgy-looking sales like this one and this one (my interest being mainly mid to high end road bikes). I'm googling a bunch of them hoping I can help someone else get his nicked bike back if possible. What I'd prefer to do is call every one of those Gumtree assholes and "meet" each of them down at ABC tube station with a large truncheon, but hey... vigilante justice not quite legal. :)
Anyway, if anyone sees my guy's Giant, please let me know!
cheers.

Omar which bit was it locked to, the long row of railings? Sorry to hear the bike got mangled, I've seen kids regularly scoping out the bikes on the railings, but I didn't think anything locked-up really got lifted that regularly, I've seen bikes unmoved there for weeks on end before, so unlucky.

I have seen a bunch of yoot eyeing up bikes around there before, I am also 99% sure they are some of the same scumbags who tried to make off with some of the track bikes from the containers at the velodrome this summer.

1 Week Ago #2982 JonoMarshall
A really dodgy guy was looking to steal bikes on/off Oxford Circus yesterday. High-vis jacket for that slight cyclist look, black rucksack full of tools, ginger beard, beady eyes that had seen better days.
Had to stand by friends and my bike whilst they nipped into some shops. He was persistent and pretty irritated that I was there. Kept leaving and coming back, he pretended to be on the phone, kept coming up and looking at a phonebox before leaving again... wasn't a very good actor.
Had my bike stolen from bike rack between John Lewis & House of Fraser on 15/12/09. Left my Abus granit at home & stupidly took a chance with an inferior Abus lock all for the sake of a couple of 'secret santa' gifts.
Not a single speed or fixed gear so I shouldn't really be here, but I just lost more than 1.5-2k worth of custom made mountain bike. Don't let it happen to you.
Oversized black Cannondale Furio frame with black rims & slick road tyres, front suspension with lockout, XTR shifters & mechs, AC Nomad cranks & Juicy 7 disc brakes. Unique - let me know if you see it.
I'll be down Brick Lane tomorrow.

Just had a quick look on gumtree & this lad keeps cropping up; http://www.gumtree.com/london/03/51465503.html and http://freeadsbazaar.com/view_print.asp?id=50328998965103581 and http://www.gumtree.com/london/38/51366538.html and the 4th one has just come down
Obviously a keen cyclist! If you've lost your bike you could do worse than phoning Ben on *07943924912 or * Benjamin on 07535018129. Any time of day or night I guess. He may not have your bike but there's surely no harm in asking.

That's not good! I'd imagine they were good locks.
It's a very recognizable frame so hopefully it'll get spotted. How were the locks broken?

i want to know if it was a fahgettaboudit, because i don't know anyone who has had one broken. I just bought a fahgettaboudit, a xena xr1 alarm, and i want to get an abus 1050 steel o flex, and perhaps a krypto mini evo. Seems like a lot to carry but its not too bad.
The steel o flex around my waist/over shoulder, the mini atatched to belt and the fahgettaboudit in my bag, if i have my bike stolen at least i'l know i did my best! -

Don't forget to secure your saddle and seatpost too (ballbearing trick? chain?)... After carrying all those locks around, the last thing you'll want is for someone to nick your saddle because they can't get at the rest of your bike! ;-)

Brick Lane was heaving with scum. I spoke to a legit dealer, he said bikes sold whole to the stall in the cygnet st square and then stripped for parts. Frame appears 6 months later. Sneaky c**t.
Mr Smooth Ride at it again?
