Yes the Nike boots do look pretty sweet - no idea if they are any good or not, a lot of people are pretty anti Nike getting involved in snowboarding, and they failed when they first tried at teh end of the 90's - however it looks like they are using the same strategy they used with Nike SB, so prob work out better this time round.
They look pretty basic tech wise, but imo a company with as much experience with feet as Nike has, and with the might of their R & D, they should be able to come up with something good.
Last season they were only available in the US, and i think Japan - i know some dude who bought back a couple of pairs of the Kass double toungue model, and they went for well over 500 quid each on eBay, most likely to sneaker heads.
The SLX'S, this seasons version of the SL boot, are about 380 quid, which as good a boot as they are is a complete piss take. Burton have put their prices up something like 30% across the board this season. The liner doesnt make much of a difference to the flex, the only reason i change the liner is with my foot shape the liner pinches, and i got my SL-10's for well below RRP, and i am allways up for experimenting!
I actually just picked up a pair of last seasons Salomon F24 Ltd's for a great price, as i am interested to try them out - they fit well, are nice and stiff, and the liner is way better than the Burton offering.
Personally i dont mind what a boot looks like, as long as the are white, though i do think the F24' Ltd's look alright.

yeah i know what you mean about nike...i remember their first acg boots..fugly. i had some of DC's first boots and they were like rubber bricks...so shit. i think its pretty hard these days to criticise corporate stuff (like nike getting involved) as snowboarding is now big biz and always will be. if it results in better product then the rider benefits and aesthetics wise...nuff said. thats why its great to see these smaller rider driven brands like union, bataleon and yes getting so successful. that way you can do both...support the smaller guys but also buy the best product when it counts.

yup...no real tech details...totally agree and really this is what we should be expecting nike to deliver. i'd say that snowboarding is so big now they can't afford to launch a crap product and then withdraw.
Last season they were only available in the US.
seems the same this year. not gonna risk an internet order, paying double on tax in the hope the size and fit will be ok. too important to get it right.

thats a joke, just not a funny one. trying to hoover up some last years boots too but not having much luck. seems a lot of good product from last year sold out. same big increases with bikes this year it seems.

pretty into shoes so it has to matter for me, though you only ever see the toes when they're on! so yeah...debatable. think i saw last years sl's for about £200...might have a look!

^ Thats ski porn...stick it in the right thread ;-) http://www.londonfgss.com/thread34466.html
Line skis are fully sick, but I'm not a fan of the Jimbo Phillips artwork on those ^

Line skis = poptastic

I still think that the line blends are the number 1 all MTN ski hands down.
If I had £500 burning a hole in my pocket I'd totally buy the Narrow Ass Snowboards off lib tech.

Eyebrows is pretty mad about his Line Blends. For me it was a toss-up between the Blends and the Chronics. Went with the latter as its better for the (relatively minor amount of) park and jibbing I get involved in, but still a stonking all mountain ski (albeit with slightly less powder-handling capability than the Blends).

@ Vinylvillain. How do those Bataleon boards ride when you are riding fast on a flat base, do they start getting a bit skitish?
-
• #294
NNotot viny villain but I have tested boards for different mags for the last decade and I dont think they ride skitish at all! They ride really well and built solid!

sorry, vinyl villain. Need to stop drinking and use spellcheck.

A Bataleon board will just feel a bit different for the first day. For me it was just a little wierd that u didnt need to use that much effort turning but u get use to that pretty quick. They are well good and easy to butter and learn tricks on compared to flat boards!
-
• #297
The Bataleon boards have concave bases at the nose/tail right? when you stand on it will you body weight flatten that out so it essentially flat at those points or will it continue to hold it concave? I can understand how it is a benefit when turning, just wondering about how that works when you are straightlining. I am after a new board and this technology came out after I got my existing board so just trying to work out how it works.

• #298
u know how u can catch your edges while having your board flat? Well, on a bataleon board u will almost never catch your edges. Get toa snowdome and check one out! It's hard to explain the feeling but trust me, there is no down points to triple base!! Well thats what I think anyway. I dont even ride a Bataleon currently(need to destroy my my current board before buying a new one) but I do really like them and been riding almost all of them over the years.

...
I have binned the standard liner, and got hold of a set of Garmont ski boot liners - these are about the best out there, fully custom fitable, but not cheap at about 180 quid a pop. ....Yeah... 180 squid a pair is a lot. Could you recommend cheaper alternatives? I would like to keep my current boots if I could get sorted with new liners.

U get your 390s yet? Happy?
no question vinylvillian...that is radical idea. articluation is the shit...everyone's on it this year, but haven't seen anyone carry it through to the liner. guess the boot is pretty flexy though?
trouble with salomans is you're gonna score low on the steeze points, but if you can still feel your toes by the end of the day its prob not a bad trade off.
my instinct when i saw the new 32 range was pretty much...meh! think they look a bit shit, but might be better in the flesh. maybe they spent too much time on their outerwear.
only other brand i'd consider would be burton, simply as they've been at it so long and i totally agree that boots are the most critical piece to get right. how are the sl-10's? always thought they were one of burton's best lookers, but aren't they +£200? with liners thats £400!
just seen this...apparently the first landed 1620 on film.

personally i'd prefer a styled out grabless straight air over this gymnastics but can't deny its progress
