Greggs 'Viennese' Mince Pie - 39p
Pastry - deep shortcrust in a 'Viennese' style - I have no idea what this entails, other than a concentric spiral pattern on top, and some icing sugar
Filling - Mincemeat with a brandy styling
Overall - Pastry had a sort of doughy uncooked consistency, but filling kicked in with a lively spicy kick. 6/10

Tesco's deep filled mince pies: Tasteless, dry, stodgy with no filling. Difficult to digest but come up a treat. WARNING: Do not consume more than two at any one time on the street whilst being abused by forumengers

I have to recommend these:
They really are great. The pastry is really great, not too short nor too sweet. Overrall they remind me of fig rolls a little, which is fantastic as far as I'm concerned. They have a chewiness to them.
8.5/10

Peckhams the Victuallers today (after slumming it with the Proles at Greggs yesterday)
Christmas Mince Pie - £1.19 each
Appearance - Solid looking, traditional flat topped, with sugar
Filling - Over 3/4 full - nice mix of mincemeat and candied peel, not overly sweet, very alcoholic!
Overall - I enjoyed this pie immensely!
It's good: Good solid little pie, nice filling and pastry very light
However: Price may be a consideration for some8/10

Tesco's Finest are the best ones, for me, this year - really boozy, lovely buttery pastry.
After a similar conversation to this thread (only just spotted it), I discovered that my colleague believed that mince pies still contain beef. Very surreal conversation 'Look, the ingredients say they contain mincemeat...'

Is that a recommended ingredient or suggestion of what mince pies should be used for (or some sort of 'in' joke)?!
