Forum people, should I create STEEL OTP BIKES List, that is Oliver-friendly?
What this means, is that the bikes are of traditional diamond shape and design, slim tubed, and with a horizontal toptube?
EDIT: Change of heart. There's enough info already, and I've made notifications to suit this. I won't bother. Oliver be damned. ;)
I'd find such a list useful, but you decide how much work you want to do, Ashe--it must be more than enough effort to maintain existing lists as it is.

GA2G, you're right in a way.....why sell a bike that i just bought, thats what my wife says! i just really like the steel retro look. the picture of the one you posted does look nice though. also something like the langster steel comes in at £500, which is hopefully what i'd get for the pearson?
i could live with losing the £150 if i could use the money for the langster.my advice, if you find your Pearson to be perfectly comfortable and does the job, but want a classic lugged bicycle, try and find a cheap decent 2nd hand frame and build it up yourself.
it's much more rewarding too, and you have complete control of how you want the bike to look, while keeping the Pearson as your day-to-day bicycle, it's also a lots cheaper than buying an OTP.

Or another option is to buy the frame as Ed suggested, move all the parts across from the Touche and sell the Touche frame. Could even end up with no monetary loss depending on how much you pay for the steel frame. Framesets fetch better money than complete bikes (relatively speaking)

I'm not sure about swapping parts. A lot wont fit a steel frame with smaller tube dimensions and some wont match from a asthetic veiw point.
I'd cut my loses and sell while the bike was 'as new', if your happy about it.

Just added some more bikes:
Less than £500
Felt Brougham 2010
Marin Inverness 2010Over £500
Felt Curbside 2010
Marin Dominican 2010
Marin Ignacio 2010
SWOBO Del Norte
SWOBO SanchezThe Brougham is actually fantastic looking, and really unbelievable for the price.
The Inverness is a reasonable starter bike.
The Curbside looks better than previous versions (toptube protector still wank though[t]).
The Dominican seems little different to the Inverness, and I wonder "why bother"?
The two Swobos are welcomed back to the list, as having been missing for quite some time.
The new Ignacio IS different to the 2009 model. Toptube is more Oliver-friendly, plus stem and bars are nicer.Felt Brougham, less than £500!!!

Its a nice bike the pearson. I'm not sure how well complete bikes sell on here, but if you're honest, and state in advance that you need a certain amount or you'll have to look to EBay. Then it would likely be well recieved, its definitly worth a go. Could be a great buy for someone.
Just my own opinion. But I have far too few saddle hours in the week to be riding something I did'nt like.

From http://www.khsbikes.co.uk/
Flite 100 Dealer news – Due to popular demand (and because it’s a special bike) we have started importing the classic KHS flite 100 track style fixie for January 2010. At last!
We've waited how long now? :)
Oh yeah......OTPFTMFW.
-
• #586
Too long.
What's that? An acronym too far?
In The States they have a version of this frame called the Kilo WT (wide track) that takes 37c knobblies!

A BIG shout-out goes to Paul at KiwiCycles. His business is small, and he's had to deal with some setbacks, but he's a f*cking excellent bloke, and one of the best mechanics anybody will find in London.
He's managed to snaffle the FOCALE44 range of bikes and good luck to him.
Handsome bikes, that are on the stronger/heavier side, that should really last...and they look sexy.
I can't add photos at the moment, due to site-based bugbears. But I'll add them later. Check them out below.

yeah, except I don't work for a bike shop ed.
if you don't believe me, ask Velocio....Sorry GA2G, these lists are ace, one of the best things on the forum.
I tried searching, but failed dismally.
Also, its the same price as Evans, and Evans might be able to set it up, give you advice, etc (but probably not)
I've removed that post now. -

are you talking about sopariva? I don't work in a bike shop.

Ed, I think he didn't realise that you were previously referring to Paul of KiwiCycles, and the Focale44.
There's a film with a take on such events - Lost In Translation.

richieboy, I suppose I should find this amusing. I am trying to.
Anyway, in the first post of this thread (the LIST), it shows the Focale44 and the link below is for KiwiCycles. The price is also in the list, and says 500 pounds.
Is it really that hard to read the list? All the info is there.

Sadly the frameset is going to be around £299 if Cycle surgery sell it. So I can't imagine that really happening.
You can get them delivered to your door for $200 in the US!

Great list, very useful, thanks! Now I just need to workout if my commute is too hilly for an SS, what kind of incline can you cope with these bikes? Obviously you could adjust the ratio, but to get good speed on the flat, and not going mad coming down the hill, how steep can you go on an SS?
Thanks

• #599
it's really down to you, where do you live? fixed wheel is better for climbing than singlespeed but netherless it's doable.
the first few weeks will feel pretty hard, but it won't be long before you get used to it and the hill are no longer a bother.

I live in Swindon, but I cycle out of town, it's just over 4 miles one way, with a couple of nasty hills...
