If you're zinging along a nice stretch of open road, going along with the flow of traffic then you should be able to feel relatively secure than you can cut a resonable clip and just be aware for the ever lurking leftfield car door / car turning across you / bus pulling out evasive manouvre. If you're cutting along through stationary traffic, all bets are off and you should be fucking well ready to stop because people cross the road and cars turn through gaps in that kind of traffic.
