  • Another one from this guy http://www.gumtree.com/london/09/49496609.html

His ads never ring true to me, very light on spec and always cheap bikes.

  • bike seen in walthamstow
mate said the guy looked a bit dodgy when riding it and something struck him as wrong.

    anyones bike ?

  • Seen a bunch of lads round Upper Street on all sorts of rides. Brampton foldups, multi-coloured Shoreditch-mobiles, rickety shoppers, fat mountain bikes... So sad. I can almost hear the bikes sobbing under the thieves horrific arses.

  • stolen in Oxford, Green and Yellow John Atkins framed bike. I don't have more details but hope to get pic to post. Belongs to my old bosses son, gimme a shout if see owt and i'll put you in touch. Thanks.

  • spotted a lovely green fg in balls pond road this morning.

light green or mint green, possibly metallic. no decals. white seat of that super slim italian kind. riser bars, only a subtle rise mind, and white grips. I am guessing a 56 cm size or so.

reason I am posting in the 'stolen bikes' thread was the the guy riding it just can't have been the owner. he was riding it slowly on the sidewalk like the chav he was. the seat was too high for him so he was riding standing over the top tube (if you see what I mean). he seemed uncomfortable/unused to the whole fixed thing and kept tapping his feet on the ground for balance.

  • THEFT FOLDED

    My missus' saddle on her bike almost got stolen today, but failed because of the ball bearing in the seatpost bolt and the seat clamp bolt, theft tried to twist it off but doesn't work;

this topic made it sound like bicycle is stolen all the time with no chance of protecting it, methinks I should change the mood with this.

  • ... but failed because of the ball bearing ...

glued in or one of those magnetic ones?

  • glued in, took me half an hour to try and removed the ball bearing thought, a quid worth of ball bearing save me £60 down the drain.

good work. i am toying with the idea of doing the same and then glueing half a razor blade on the underside of the saddle above the ball bearing

That's dark and quite cunning. Just make sure you don't forget about it.

I did the whole bike chain in innertube thing. A bit ugly but pretty secure.

  • how does the ball-bearing thing work - got a link to a 'how to'.?

The razor blade thing sounds good, can you order anthrax online?

  • it's simple, ball bearing inside the allen bolt prevent allen key from getting inside, it's nigh on impossible to try and undo the bolt with a ball bearing inside as well as being impossible to take out (using the right glue).

  • did you use superglue, epoxy two-part?

  • Who cares, as long as the bearing doesn't move. I used to just use bike grease to hold them in. Pretty much impossible to get out without a magnet.

    Glue this time.

  • epoxy two-part?

    ten four.

  • Ed , is it me or are the seat stays on that bike a bit misaligned ?

  • Hello - if anyone has seen this please let me know!

ITS A LOT SCRUFFIER THAN THIS NOW,

  • Sory - it went today and is unusual because it says transmitters on the tubing and has chrome forks and stays,

    cheers
    matt

  • How did you lock your bike and what lock did you use?

Ed , is it me or are the seat stays on that bike a bit misaligned ?

It's probably the angle of the photo, but I'll have a check when I see my missus again.

  • With a cable lock - yes I know! I don't normally leave it outside the office, but was in a rush to get to a meeting

RH one seems to have a slight but graceful curve too.Don't tell the missus about either or you'll have to cobble together an even more covetable steed

  • Yes, there has been some success there. Go with a friend and proof of ownership.

Search around on here and you will find some stories with happy endings.

  • Damn bike theives, they should bring back the theft punishment of hand removal! then maybe we'll be a little safer leaving our bikes chained to railings
