i've got some campag record cranks i was gonna get done.
i looked into it, and was told that one-off anodizing is a bit hit & miss.... -

Nice, I though(t) of doing this already, I´m pretty sure 14 provides anodising, I saw somewhere these same cranks in gold/champagne, if memory´s not failing.
Memory is online.

you'd need to use hardcoat annodising to stop them scuffing.
personally i would polish them, it'll be easier to clean up. as opposed to annodising which will eventually scuff. -

Speaking of which, are those aerospokes on your avatar?
Yup, 1st generation Spoks from 1991, Wolber Record 18 Piste tubulars, DuraAce 7400 6-speed screw on block with only the top 3 sprockets on it. They were so short of lateral stiffness that, combined with the Profile Aero 2 tri bars which arrived the next year, you'd get a tank slapper at any speed if you took your hands off the bars, but they were way faster than my 28 spoke Mach 2 CD wheels. The rear wheel was used by Chris Boardman for a couple of races before I got it so I got a discount, but they were still £675 for the pair all those years ago.

Mugged
Compared with today's price, they were expensive, but pretty much everything carbon has got cheaper in the last 2 decades.

Look at it properly. Rear-entry slot dropouts...
Does that make it rear entry porn?
sorry.

I was talking about the hubs specifically, but that wasn't clear. I question internet wisdom generally, and this thread is a prime example, but on this I really have an issue with it as I know lots of people who are both happy with their Ksyriums, and also have had many miles of trouble free riding on them.
I've added you to that list.
I ride the Ksyrium SLs and they are great. Been using them for over a year now and are still perfectly true. Smooth and fast. They came recommended by my LBS (=real life wisdom > internet wisdom?). -

James1822 - unless you know your LBS quite well, I wouldn't ever rely on their advice fully. Always go for a back-up source. So many stories of people getting the wrong sizes, expensive but unreliable components etc...
-
• #22837
Who would you rather trust, people who sell bike components for a living or a bunch of sad wankers who spend too much time online dissecting every single bike component available in the market today?
-
• #22838
no, I do know my LBS well. They don't try to flog things just because they're expensive. I also read loads of reviews etc, but the SLs have basically been a well-regarded all round road wheel for years. They changed the design a bit for 2008 I think, but I hadn't read anything negative about the changes.

The Ksyrium SL is a wheel which works quite well considering the fact that its whole USP is fundamentally flawed. You can buy 4 sets of Aksiums for the same price, and the Aksium is faster in any race that's not an actual hill climb. Still, at least it's not an R-SYS...

Not porn for me, but defintely for some of you;
$16,000 worth of bicycle build for specialized, 'prototype testing' apparently.
what a waste

I would rather trust the people who spend too much time dissecting every component. (and I don't mean the people on forums who just make stuff up). Bike shop people don't have the time, and sadly not always the interest.
I tend to know more about bikes/parts than people in bike shops and it isn't even my living!

Stolen from here
no no. Not for me
I think anodising is a tricky old process to get right. I was tempted to get my frame done but after googling a bit I was soon put off!
