The fish and chip shops down here are alright at best... the best chippy was Johnny's Chippy on Burgess, High field, Southampton .... massive portions ... we used to joke that Jesus could feed the 5000 with a 2 quids worth of chips from said chippy, I once ordered the large cod and had to share it with two of my mates.... was moooooosive.
Also Fish and Chips are washed down with best with a full fat coke, makes you feel like you just eaten something filthy ... similar to others experiences that may occur down Poole Quay.
What the hell is full fat coke?
Its rare to find a chip shops that actually use decent fish like cod & haddock these days but one that gives you enough to share between 3 for £2 is amazing. Im a bit of a fish & chip conoisseur, birminghams absolutley full of cheap chip shops. There is some that even do it for £1 But the few that use decent fish & potatoes give you well stingy portions.
When going to the coast I used to always expect to find great fish & chips, but 90% of the time ive been horribly dissapointed. So many of them just use their seaside hype to get in qeues of customers for horrible "from frozen" caterers crap. Ive only ever had one experience of a decent coastal chippy, it was somewhere near cardigan bay in wales. The man in the shop was a proper fish enthusiast and had maritime paraphernalia on the walls. He only cooked stuff when someone ordered. Good fish & chips is bliss. Especially in summer when your body is craving all the salt.
