I just copied some mp3s into a 'ringtones' folder on the SD card.

DON'T DO IT!!!
Verizon Droids run on Verizon's CDMA network and won't work at all on European networks which are GSM-based. It's a totally different network standard and incompatible.
If you buy one It will be nothing more than an expensive WiFi tablet. Wait for a European version that supports the networks here.

too late, I've filled my suitcase with them

Bummer. I mean, bummer they don't work here.

Does CDMA/GSM include Edge/2G traffic?
-
• #316
Does it have Jet on the ad campaign? Fucking NO!
-
• #317
EDGE is a GSM technology (it's a sort of 2.5G network).
CDMA has its own standard 2G version, and then EVDO and EVDO Rev A which are its 2.5G/3G versions.
So no, CDMA and GSM are not compatible over either 2G or 3G.
There are some handsets that can handle both GSM and CDMA networks, but they are relatively few (it costs extra and handset manufacturers are very sensitive to increased costs).
Usually people with GSM phones (ie Europeans, people from most Asian countries, Aussies, Africans) can still roam in the US, because there are a couple of GSM operators over there (AT&T, T-Mobile) that support the right network bands. But CDMA customers from the US (Verizon, Sprint) are mostly fucked if they try to roam overseas.

So Acer have some netbooks that dual boot Windows and Android; what are the advantages of that on a laptop vs a phone?
Guessing fast loading, low power usage and able to use web without Windows less virus etc?

At first I thought this statement was a rather fanciful representation of the truth, but it seems that winston may well be on to something.
The Motorola Droid, so far, appears to be a very able phone, but also quite lacking in certain respects. I had liked the idea of the physical keyboard, until I've seen that in nearly all reviews, its deemed as deeply flawed, and frustrating. If I want to be frustrated, I'll get married. Phones are supposed to make my life easier. Fail
Apparently there is a significant difference between the physically identical Motorola Droid, and the Europe-bound Motorola Milestone. The Milestone will have multi-touch screen capability, and yet bizarrely, the Droid does not. Since the devices are identical, it will obviously be a hot mod/hack that the grateful Yank audience will anxiously await.
My big issue with the Droid/Milestone, is that the memory space for downloads/apps, again has been restricted to 256mb. This is incredible! Its the same puny shit that the G1 was neutered with. Well frankly, thats shyza. I will now anticipate the Acer Liquid A1 and the Sony-Ericsson X10 instead. Why on earth would Motorola allow such a puny space for apps, is beyond me. Maybe its just keeping to costs down, so as to maximise profits, but I think it was a mistake, and a badly missed opportunity. No doubt it will sell well, but people like me, that want gigabytes for app downloads, will pass on this one.....despite that superbly superior 3.7inch hi-res screen, and fast processor.
