sounds like you'll get a fixed penalty first though, say it wasn't you, go to court, by the time you get there the cop will have forgotten what you look like, judges hate having their time wasted by petty shit...
-
• #3
He was trying to scare into not doing it again. You'll probably never hear about it again, but will always look over your shoulder for coppers when you RLJ.

poor alex. hopefully nothing comes of it mate.

• #5
did he take your details?
-
• #6
As Zed said, did you give him your details and was anything written down by the policeman?
Oh and if anyone is ever going to run a red light always look over your shoulder to see who is behind you before doing it, I always look in my rear view mirror in the car before running a red light.

Agreed - if you're going to try and be a cowboy at the very least check behind you and don't get caught. Otherwise you get what you deserve.
These guys are just enforcing rules.

Actually you should always look over your shoulder before you RLJ. While you're dong it is just too late and won't do much for your claims of innocence.
If you do get hauled into court and feel like fighting it, make up a story about the copper not seeing you are a previous junction and being made to look silly before busting you on a yellow. It might sway the judge to call it down the middle. Mind you, if the copper has an onboard cam then you don't stand a chance.

i got a fine a couple of weeks ago, and they are not enforcing rules, they're trying to achieve a quota of fined cyclists as there is a "push" on this at the moment.
A little like a push on the Tesco clubcard. or on the newest styles in Primark. -
• #12
If you can honestly say you got fined for jumping a yellow light then I might sympathise.
As you likely can't, schtum.

So not only do you run red lights in a car, but also concede that you're more interested in what is going on behind you than in front.
I can't think that this is a good course of action.

Well I'm not trying to be a cowboy thanks, half of the cyclists on the road jump reds, but obviously beig a courier I'm going to do it whenever I can. And I did actually look behind me, I do most ofthe time, but he must have been quite far back or something.

Anyway, being sent to court facing a £2500 fine isn't really a fair rule for jumping a light. Also, you believe the police get off on 'enforcing the rules'? Then why are there so many dickhead taxi drivers who get away with trying to run cyclists off the road?

frankly I sympathise with courier, their job do require (even thought it claim not to) to run a red in order to meet daily quota (like atk).
it's just the normal commuter I don't sympathise with.

So if your boss told you to stick your head in the gas oven and turn the gas on to meet your quota then you would do it?

Or they could ride faster between the lights...

I sympathise with them also. But it's a tad hypocritical for guys who run reds to cry about getting tagged by the feds but then complain about taxi drivers. I'm pretty sure just as many pedestrians nearly get nailed by RLJ's every day if not more.

is this not more a case of "you take a chance, and pay the price if you get it wrong"?

So do you sympathise with taxi and delivery drivers that go through red as they are on deadlines etc but not normal drivers?
Not commenting on the OP as i don't know them, but i've seen couriers fly through red lights not giving a fuck about who if anyone was crossing.
In saying that I see enough cars, van and scooters rlj and not getting pulled over for it. -
• #23
Yeah but the 'price' is meant to be a £30 fine, not a court summons and possible massive fine. I think it will be difficult for him to prove that you were conducting 'dangerous wreckless or careless cycling', though. It's very rare that cyclists are done for shit like this and its usually cause someone has been hurt/killed. Wouldn't worry too much, but perhaps seek legal advice.
Couriers run red lights cause they're gnarly and have skills commuters can only dream of. Haters be jealous.

I jumped my first red light in weeks yesterday.
I missed the yellow by like a second or less.
I felt like a cunt. -

Courier currently earn fuck-all right now, they earn something like £2 per package (I think), I recall it being a bit more than that a couple years ago, so for those who want to earn a decent wages, they really do need to shift as much package per hours to get the minimum (need someone to clarify courier's wages).
As for motorised vehicles jumping red light, that's frankly a different kettle of fish despite being a vehicle, the likeihood of getting killed by a motorised vehicles jumping by a red light increased dramatically.
So basically I went through a red light (very slowly, about 4mph) at Cambridge circus yesterday turning right up charing cross road, there was one ped crossing the road (not within the pedestrian crossing markings), shorty followed by copper on motorbike pulling me over. He said he's stopping me for dangerous wreckless or careless cycling. He then read me my rights as if he was arresting me, and told me I would receive a summons IN THE POST for me to appear at a magistrates court. He gave me no paperwork or documentation/endorsement/tilet informing me of what I had done/the penalty, and just told me I could receive a fine of up to £2500.
Surely this is not entirely legit, especially as he gave me literally nothing to take away. If had a few run ins with the police and every time I got a ticket.
Anyone know anything/heard anything like this before?
Thanks
