I really don't care about any phone where someone prevents me to use it for tethering ... oh, that's all of them, apart from the n900 that is, as you have root access there and can do whatever you want.
Hence why I pre-ordered one. The thought to buy something from some shitty app shop is mindboggling to me.
I am currently using macs, and I am so pissed off with this whole direction that they're going. Iapps here, MyPhone this, MobileMe there. I remember when I had my "lifetime" .mac account, which then got swiftly converted into some pay for service.
Therefore I am deeply suspicious about assigning control away from myself to some non-open manufacturer. And if I write an app I wanna be able to use it and pass it on. Why would I have to wait until some suckers approve it?
For others it might be a nono, but for me nothing's wrong with apt-get install at a later point. If the n900 is something that isn't fully developed yet as a software platform, I think that's OK. Someone will fill the gap, and if not, I will just write something for it me thinks.
It has python support, and I have the SDK already fired up and working :)

That's nice. I don't need to jail break my phone for background tasks. And I have built-in notifications - it's not just some lame Windows 3.11 approx. of multi-tasking.
How are those Latitude update working out for ya? Google Voice?Whatever.... your implication that an iPhone cannot multi-task is incorrect.

...and you.
PDAnet enables tethering with the iphone.

pascalo, tethering is fine in my Galaxo Android ROM. PDAnet works with vanilla Android now too.

Can a stock iClone multi-task?
No?
Case closed.I could claim to be able to cycle at 200mph, but if I need to attach a rocket to my bike to do it... you get my point.. it's not rocket science.

Well well. Let's hope they don't remove that one from the marketplace again, eh?
I any case, I did have a look on maemo, I can handle writing apps for it. Can't bear the iphone shite. Case closed for me.

Mine too!

Hippy, if you intend to multitask and tether, clearly you have the technical nous to take the 2 minutes to jailbreak so you can use your device to its capacity. If not, enjoy your ipod/mobile phone/web browsing.

Thanks for this, missed this one - was very good. Martin Trenaman is great
I agree. utterly puerile, and definitely worthy of a repeat viewing. plus my mate big Andy plays the tall white phoneshop guy and I can confirm he is just as charming in real life.

Balki, doesn't the fact that you have to jailbreak something in order to make it work as intended just annoy the shit out of you? It does for me!

Nope.. It makes me feel smarter than Apple. That makes me feel good, and a bit sneaky like Zero Cool in 90's nerd-flick Hackers.

You're missing the point. Multitasking is fantastic for all users and works out of the box with Android. The funky notifications etc are great for 'normal' users. Normal users probably won't tether nor will they risk voiding their warranties and bricking their phones by rooting or jailbreaking. It's not about the minority hackers, it's about normal users.

Until they release the next update that won't work on jail broken phones and then you rely on the hackers out there to jailbreak the newest iClone software.
Being 'smarter than Apple' is about not buying their limited shit in the first place.

That's obvious.
It's interesting that many people who are now Android advocates were saying much the same thing two years ago when Apple launched the iPhone. New kids on the block have this effect.
It'll be interesting to see Android's progress but it is a Google play first and foremost and many manufacturers will not like it when their brand is eclipsed by Google's. Launching a single platform is relatively easy, doing that with regularity and predictability is much harder.
