Any suggestions? I'm not interested in beat matching really. Have used Ableton Live 6 previously and liked the interface, but don't need all the extraneous effects etc. that come with it
Need something fairly simple, two channels/decks and will be using mouse rather than a MIDI controller, although I do have an M Audio controller I could use if needed.
Was thinking of Traktor Duo - any takers?

i've never had much experience with Traktor but people i know who DJ use it a lot.
I believe its pretty great, versatile and easy to use.
I have a friend too who is writing some software for it that's supposed to make it more musician friendly. It's gonna be called 'Farmer' - how cute!

PC or mac or intel mac?

there has been a topic on this before.

That's ace! I've been doing this for a while now with two windows open!
Er.....PC
I just DL Numark MixMeister - this is more than I need really but interestingly it scans your tracks and works out BPM and key. So you can create a playlist of similar tracks, and set an 8 bar cross mix, and somewhat depressingly, sit back and enjoy a seamless mix

Eightball has committed the heinous crime of asking a question than is similar but does not have the answer that 8ball was looking for. ;)
In all seriousness I was looking for something similar to create a mix cd in non MP3 format from MP3, flac tracks but had no idea where to start and google was not being helpful. The mixing was to be via mouse.

i have recently bought a numark omni mp3 controller, which comes with traktor le.
traktor le is a bit mickey mouse, but is delibrately made to be a bit shit to encourage you to pay for the upgrade. it does the job though.
having always been a vinyl purist, this is my first experience with mp3 mixers... the omni is very basic and knobs and sliders are cheap feeling. but you can pick one up for just over 200 quid now, so cheap controls are par for the course.
i have no room for decks to be set up where i am now and all my vinyl (apart from 2 boxes) is in storage. the omni takes up no space and i just need to plug it in to my laptop if i fancy a little mix. you still get the same good feeling when dropping some tunes ... always put a smile on my face.
as for playing at mates parties or even bars/clubs, you can just plug it into any spare channel on the existing mixer and off you go. beats lugging vinyl about!
i think i am sold on mp3 mixers. "record" shopping is instantaneous now... and everything is always in stock, all the time... it is not the same as vinyl and will never give the same experience when playing and mixing tunes. but it sure is better than nothing.
sorry vinyl. i still love you.......

Sidetrack -
But records feel right, I love the action of putting needle on record and the crackle as it starts to play. Don't get that with MP3.

You do.. it's called an 'effect'. :P
You also don't get the horrible feeling of scratching the fuck out of your only copy of that 12" it took your 17 years to find..

Since I've finally got my second CDJ I thought I'd revive this thread. I'm currently looking for a better mixer (bidding on some Vestax and A&H at the moment) but if anyone has anything they're looking to part with let me know. I'm playing techno so not into battle mixers or rotary house mixers or anything like that.
Having previously owned 1200s and a DJM500 in Oz I have to say I fucking LOVE being able to burn any track to a CD and play it. I love that I don't have to spend $20 to get a single track.
The CDJs are great for shit wannabes like me who don't practise enough to actually be any good. They are easier to mix with than using vinyl.Oh and my back is killing me - these are only a foot off the floor at the moment. Fark.

I picked up a PMC-17A I'd ordered from the other office, 5min ago. Bought it on ebay before nabbing the 275.
It looks well used and is also £20 if anyone wants it.Same as this though missing an effects switch and much rougher top..
