Google translates says it means "shopping around" and that is good enough for me. Even if it means going for a lazy walk, why are you taking a lazy walk with anyone's mother? A good robust walk or a cycle ride must be more appropriate.
I'm sure it means to stroll. There even is a polish word (from ze german) "bumelant", which means a bum, someone lazy and unemployed :-)
