Bad news I think Murtle. From the Samsung mobile site:

"I regret to advise that Samsung do not support macintosh with our mobile phones. No software exists to provide usb connectivity with a Macintosh. You may be able to transfer filesto and from the phone using Bluetooth but again we do not provide software to facilitate this."
Completely nuts. You could try this:

Or get a micro sd card and card reader & just install that way.
Or take your phone back....
