• A world of roundabouts - I love roundabouts - they are so much fun

I enjoy roundabout surfing like the next person, but they are a bad idea--a huge land take with generally deserted central islands (not all have something worth seeing on them, like an Arc de Triomphe) leading to severance, higher casualty rates for cyclists and pedestrians, and no motor traffic capacity advantage once signalised to reduce casualties.

    Yeah, or four-way crossings.

Traffic lights create traffic jams, and seem to suggest it's OK for drivers to career toward lights about to change from green back to red, at all costs, trying to get across the junction.

Of course there should be fewer traffic signals--many are only put in these days because of predictive traffic modelling. However, at roundabouts they are certainly better, as otherwise you get a lot more cyclist and pedestrian casualties. They have to be applied consistently, though--if you look at inconsistently signalised roundabouts like E&C or HPC, you have one major explanation right there why they still strike fear into many cyclists.
