Keep it bumping so more people see this.

Oh dear, just seen that Minsiters can't sign them. Anyone know if Joan Ruddock is 'front bench'?

He's correct--EDMs are for 'ordinary' MPs to raise issues and ministers can't sign them. Still, as he says, he will follow it up, so it's very good that he's putting some political traction on it.
Thanks for clearing that up. I still don't understand the politics here and who's an 'ordinary' one. Who do I go to with bribes?

Anyone heard back from Kate Hoey (Vauxhall MP)? I reminded her in my letter that at least two of the women cyclists killed by lorries this year were in her constituency. Haven't heard anything back and can't see her on the list.
Maybe because she has that job working for Boris on the Olympics she doesn't want to step out of line...
Here's the list of the 40 who have signed as of Wednesday 4 November 6pm:
Abbott, Diane
Bottomley, Peter
Meale, Alan
Slaughter, Andy
Cryer, Ann
Godsiff, Roger
Hopkins, Kelvin
Jones, Lynne

Wow! Forgive my surprise but writing to my MP actually worked... she's signed up to it and it looks like she persuaded a couple of her party colleagues to sign up also.
Let's hope it works.

I've just emailed Kate Hoey for a 2nd time... how long do MPs have to reply? I thought it was 20 days.
Can anyone from her constituency attend her open surgeries?

Kate Hoey hasn't always been tremendously supportive of cycling:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/article-200212/Do-lycra-louts-enrage-you.html
I can't seem to find the original article on the Mail's web-site. NB this wasn't just a complaint about RLJing, but a general rant that took RLJing as a starting-point.
I would of course fully expect Ms Hoey to be supportive of safety initiatives benefiting cyclists.

Dawn Butler is my MP for Brent. She didn't sign :/ , have emailed.

I have received a reply from Greg Hands, my MP.
"I will not be signing the EDM as I do not believe it considers the valid alternatives to improving safety."
mentions FOS, Trixi mirrors, turning left on reds,
"unprecedented £111 million in measures such as Cycle Superhighways, safety campaigns and the distribution of over 20,000 Fresnel lenses to HGVs to improve visibility of cyclists to drivers"there we go then, do not be concerned Citizen.

And if Harriet Harman hasn't gotten back to me yet, then that's because she doesn't give a shit bout road users:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/nov/19/harriet-harman-charged-mobile-crash
And while I support the prosecution of mobile phone use while driving, I find it weird that the CPS does care about her on the phone, but not about women under the wheels of trucks driven by people that just "didn't see her":
The CPS statement said: "The Crown Prosecution Service has decided there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest to prosecute the Rt Hon Harriet Harman MP for the offences of driving without due care and attention and driving whilst using a handheld mobile telephone in relation to an incident on 3 July 2009.

I don't think MPs can sign it after the Queen's Speech. But we are working on another one. Will post it as soon as it's done.

Emailed Siobahn McDonagh weeks ago - got an out of office, with a promise to reply on return - then nothing - guess she's too busy even though she claimed £48k in expenses on letters to her constituents last year. Am I too late to chase her up?

Of the 79 MPs that signed our EDM only 2 were Tory. Totally shit. I know they'll stick to Boris' line but this is about the death of these cyclists, not about votes. Feel free to lampoon your local Tory.
Kate from the action group got onto the Lib Dems. They have all been asked to sign it.
