I know, I know - I was asking what the trade price was. Follow up question was maybe going to be a cheeky request. Maybe you can figure out what? ;)

This is the cheapest i've seen, estimate wise:
http://www.lauritz.com/Item/Item.aspx?LanguageId=2&ItemId=1703770&nBids=5&ReturnUrl=http%3a%2f%2fwww.lauritz.com%2fItemList%2fItemList.aspx%3fLanguageId%3d2%26DC%3d1%26CPIn%3d0%26ISz%3d0%26PSz%3d100%26PSzG%3d6%26SO%3d3%26ST%3d0%26IgId%3d55%26TTyp%3d0%26TVal%3d0%26FLId%3d2%26FCId%3d6%26FText%3deames%26LLan%3dFalse%26Vat%3d0%26sflang%3den%231703770EndTagRU&sflang=enI would sell for double, so, your answer is trade price, 1200 Euros maybe.

I can get brand new Vitra chair and ottoman for £3500 (includes vat and my mark up) + delivery. I thought this was pretty good as Heal's price for example is £ 4490 however I also found this which does the chair alone for £3250 and so it looks like a bit of research might find an even better price.

Yes, good price for sure.
I'd personally rather have and original 1950's with history and character, and so would your potential customers. -
• #34
Yes maybe, but I think Mattty meant brand new as I mentioned I get trade on brand new stuff earlier

that chair will cost the same to restore and it's only 70's vitra one. herman miller never used those bases.

yes the bay is saturated but if you have time and patience you will find good things that are badly described and photographed. if you see something early email the seller and ask if they'll end the auction early but offer them a decent price. a while back i bought on a buy it now 6 'leather and chrome office chairs' when i called to arrange delivery the seller said "i have five more would you be interested in those as well at the same price?" "yes please" i replied trying not to laugh like a hyena but also trembling like a leaf.
they were charles eames leather soft pads fully loaded on castors. nice. -

wow, that's quite a find. A friend of mine got a scout hut full of jacobsen originals once, he made alot of money once he'd scrubbed all the 'peter is a bummer' type graffiti off them

in the same way that you only alluded to a place in east london (post 12) very few dealers/people will tell you where the real magpies nest is. that,,, you have to find out for yourself.

Would dearly love an eames chair + ottoman, but unfortunately it's still a ways out of my price range, even at £3.3k, which the best price I have seen.
couple more years, i think.

True, the threads turned up some interesting leads / thoughts though so it was worth a go.

Slightly off topic, was just looking for images of Eames chairs to figure out what you guys were talking about.
Check out the style in the A-frame house on this blog.

Surely the point, if you want one, is to find for the best price, wether it be for Vitra or Herman Miller.
The only difference that I can see is the base pegs are slighly higher on HM. -

I'm told there's an Auction at the back end of each month next to West Ruislip tube station, allegedly good stuff.
There a hoooooge car boot sale at Denham roundabout just off the A40 every Saturday, J1 of the M40 I think, its Oxford Road off the A40, entrance in Denham Country Park.
Harefield has its very own monthly auction, but doesn't get the stuff you're after, too small, most things go for £3.50 !! Hence various ornaments etc in my house........
Watford Oxfam has furniture bargains, as does one near over Ilford way, big Sainsbury's nearby, can't think of the name at the mo.

The only difference that I can see is the base pegs are slighly higher on HM.It depends how particular you are, the liscenced production history of these types of furniture is facsinating (if you are interested) and the fine details between one set and another means a lot and usually effects price. The new Modernica Eames armchairs for example in original fibreglass made with the some of the original equipment are in my opinion a lot better than the new Vitra Polypropylene ones although both would be considered to be 'authentic'.
