  • say: "its riding or anal, your call".

yep - i mean who'd want to give anal up?

  • If he has already given her a last caress is it not time for one of us to step up?

  • This is the only really sensible comment in this post.

People have, to a large extent, the ability to exercise freewill. If you're girlfirend wanted to ride a bike I'm sure she would be capable of communicating this fact to you, or whoever else she may feel comfortable discussing it with.

Asking, "How do I make someone do......" demonstrates just how little you think of them.

    As for this:
    Grow up and fuck off.

haha - you need to chillax Object. Or is it because she works in your building that you're defensive?

You can't deny that the 'urban cowboy fixie rebel adventurer' image isn't particularly appealing to some of the fairer sex, and there are many bikes more instantly appealing to people than the cold, stripped look of a track frame. Hell, when I was pure bmx and mtb, I thought road looking frames and thin tires were laughably nerdy and now my eyes fix onto any bike that goes past and glaze slightly, to the extent that my girl has to check occasionally that I'm not looking at women.

It's not a matter of forcing her into riding, despite my imprecise syntax, but merely to open her up to the possibility of cycling without fear of becoming a ghost bike marker. (Or lycra clad commuter).

  • Just thinking about this and her reasons for not being keen on riding my be many... I mean if she has a job where she has to dress smart its a bit more of a paff to get ready at work than it is at home. My job is casual+ which is good, but people can tell when I've caught the tube in and not just chosen from the selection of clothes in my desk drawer. Sometimes is a hassle - one you get used to, but still.

+1, if she can muster some enthusiasm for cycling then visit some bike shops together and let her tell you what kind of bike and riding (parks, pubs, commuting, training, track) she's interested in. Trying to manipulate her into being an unwilling fixie skidder is going to end in tears

  • Tell her if she doesn't then you're going to dump her for a girl who does. If she really loves you then she'll comply. If she doesn't then I've done you both a favour. :p

Ha ha... I was going to read the whole thread... don't think I need to now.

Dude, it's Friday. I want an argument to get me through the rest of the day.

Besides, if she rides there's less space for me to lock my bikes.

    Oh, you're a cunt too.

  • a brave thread to start on a friday afternoon, and bearing that in mind, it has remained quite sensible.

james, if you bang on about cyclefit or cycle training any more, i am going to find your favourite hat and poo in it.

    :P

    Thank god...

  • Oh, you're a cunt too.

At last, something we can all agree on.

  • james, if you bang on about cyclefit or cycle training any more, i am going to find your favourite hat and** poo** in it.

    :P

    Now that's a surprise ;)

  • haha!

  • I don't know who is more fervent in their newly found religous zeal; DJ and cycle training/cyclefit or CJ and cyclefit/bib tights?

Both need to change the fecking record though.

  • merely to open her up

Bit harsh, or are we going back to the dildo bike?

  • No you're a cunt.

Dare I say it? Plus 1.

At least CJ has stopped banging on about his powerlifting insoles, which was in itself a nice diversion from his 24 inch street bike.

Plus one too. Being pushed into something you're not really interested in is not nice.

  • Edit: Reminder gone!

  • Don't remind him!

  • Polo hmmmm..... I wonder how good a 24 inch street bike would be for polo, and maybe I could hit the ball further if I wear my powerlifting innersoles, do you think bib tights will improve my aerodynamics on the court at all?
Or should I just go the whole hog and get a "polo skinsuit" ?
Should I get a cyclefit to attain the correct positon/geometry for optimum polo play?

  • I don't think I ever want to see you in any kind of skinsuit!

    But thanks for the lolz.

  • ugh don't get her a mountain bike to ride around london....

that will put her right off.

Invite her out on a day trip somewhere, cycling somewhere beautiful and quiet. She can borrow my road bike if it will fit her.....

If she can experience the joy of cycling minus the psychopaths we have to deal with on a daily basis, then perhaps it will entice her into trying out a gentle commute with you............

I would go for the slowly slowly catchy monkey approach
Nothing would piss me off more than my boyfriend trying to make me take up his hobby to make life easier for him ;-)

as a girl i reckon get her a hybrid or mountain bike to start, and start by taking her on fun rides (ie offer to take her to things she likes by bike) on quiet roads to get her confidence, until she realises that it is the best way to travel! then she'll be hooked :) Then a cycle training course for sure.

I remember when I started commuting by bike i was really intimidated by domineering drivers, but determined to do it. it really helped going out with a friend who was really experienced a few times, i learnt so much and gained confidence. So just take it really slowly with her and be patient...

  • So many of you are talking about this woman like she's ill informed.
She's dating a cyclist. She gets it. She doesn't want too.
Get her a bike as a gift instead of something she actually wants and you're a selfish asshole.
Get her a bike as an honest plea to get her to give it a try and at least it's honest.
Calling her the fairer sex, saying she's intimidated by a scary "racer", and asking how to "talk her into something" makes you extremely condescending, consciously or otherwise.

If the fact that she doesn't ride is make or break for you, leave her alone.
If it's not, get over it.

  • Going back to the original point of this post just leave her to make her own mind up- anything you do to try to force her hand will back fire.
