  • Cheers eyebrows. I don't usually add eBay sellers, due to their here-today-gone-tomorrow existence. But I'm sure anyone reading this list thread, and looking for a 48-spoke hub, will be very thankful you've found this seller for them.

  • If anyone is short of cash and tempted by wheels like these on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Omega-Single-Speed-Track-Fixed-Road-Bike-Wheels-700c_W0QQitemZ350265059785QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR?hash=item518d6ca9c9
    Don't
I bought a rear for £34 and about 2 months later the lockring thread broke off from the hub.
Just a heads up, sorry if this is posted in the wrong section.

  • On the 48 Hold hubs bit...

    • BLB don't stock Soma any more.
    • The Velocity hubs are £45 rear and £42 front I believe. Standard re-branded formula goodness. Little expensive thanks to going Taiwan - AUS - UK...
  • Cheers Harry.Major, I've done a quick check, and the SOMA site still has BLB down as distributors.

If anyone else has any information regarding SOMA Hubs iun the UK, I'd be grateful.

  • I know they do. But we haven't bought anything from them in 6 months and will not be doing so again.

  • Gentlemen, anyone know if it's viable to obtain replacement axles for System EX hubs? (including the spacers and back nuts) and if so, where from?

I'm sure SJSC's generic axles will fit, but there's no point in buying them as a new hub is cheaper. The old cup n' cone axles I have knocking around don't fit, unsurprisingly.

  • Prolite is to Shimano as Fulcrum is to Mavic

Whoops, no, PRO is Shimano's not Pro-Lite.

  • I know they do. But we haven't bought anything from them in 6 months and will not be doing so again.

Hadn't realize that you worked for that august establishment. Wish I'd known at the outset.

    I shall amend the list.

  • it appears that goldtech are not listing 48h as available on their website.

  • I'm about to get some hubs for a new wheelset, basically its between system ex or on one hubs.
I can get the system hubs at trade so just under £30 the pair, or on one hubs at £30 a pair.
Which should i go for? is there really any difference in quality?
    cheers

Any reasons to go with one or the other?

    Otherwise i think i'l just toss a coin :)

  • Just go for on-one, they're pretty much similar hubs, no reason to spend more money on another hubs that's made in the same factory.

  • anyone had any experience with these? token track hubs with lockring and 16t sprocket, the pair for £70 evans http://www.evanscycles.com/products/token/alloy-track-hubs-ec017782

found them for cheaper on wiggle http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Token_Track_Hubs/5360047134/

  • Ziya, neither Evans nor Wiggle are known for selling duff products. Buy with confidence, though in my opinion, they are not necessarily better than Ambrosio/IRO/Halo/SystemEX/Formula.

They do look nice though - a bit like the Woodman hubs, but with cut-outs.

  • Hello all,

I'm currently setting up a singlespeed bike and I'm looking for hubs.
Although I've heard that I can use Miche Primato large flange road / track hubs 120 OLN, with an 130 mm OLN old road frame, the seller insists that I can't.
Witch is true? Does it require axle modification? Can anybody help?

Thank you in advance for any helpful info.

    Thanks GA2G.

Just sent a PM with your bank account and I shall transfer the money.

  • TUNE hubs have some hubs called King, and Kong. They look well built, but still can be seen on some budget hubs. More soon.

  • GA2G, thanks for the advice, I think Im going with a pair of on-ones cant resist the price tag.

  • it appears that goldtech are not listing 48h as available on their website.

They don't list them, i don't think they ever have.... but i bought my rear black 48h direct from them, phoned up, did the card payment over the phone and the hub showed up a few days later.... good service...

  • TUNE hubs
Will add to the list soon.

    Tune hubs rock.

  • Tune Single Speed Hub. Strange configuration.

DT Swiss 240s (HUGI) Single Speed. A mere £272.50. Bargain.

Reposted images, as I'd like folks to give their opinions.

DT wiss hubs are always good, and always expensive. Tune are a very popular brand amongst the weight weenie crew. I have a roadie wheel plan, which will use either Tune or M5 hubs. It involves lacing a 32 hole rear hub to a 24 hole rim, by using only 8 of the non drive side hub drillings. Its a nice idea (comes originally from campag wheels I think). It works well with Tune hubs as they have clever flange geometry (Tune allegedly now provide a specifically drilled rear hub for this lacing pattern).

The full freehub version of the Tune hubs has a larger drive side flange to even out the spoke bracing angles on each side. I'm trying to work out why the single speed has the opposite flange configuration. knowing Tune there'll be a cunning plan behind it.

  • Eh?

  • Right just checked the Tune site. The disc brake compatible version doesnt appear to have the same oversized non-drive side flange. This made me even more curious.

The disc version has center-to-flange distances of...
    33 / 35,5 mm - L / R
The non disc version has center-to-flange distances of...
    36,5 / 32 mm - L / R

So they are pushing out the non drive size flange, and increasing its diameter at the same time. Which appears counter productive to me.
