  • @bill - rather than invoking general points about sports, do you have any reaction to the specifics of this case? (I want to make a general point too, but the general point needs to be able to deal effectively with specific issues, which I don't think you have.)

    Let me add:

    4) We were under severe time constraints due to lights and had no time to stop and discuss it.

    Oh, here's a good one!

This was not given as a goal.

  • Mike - it'll be at Mitch…

what time can you do? we have to play Apples that evening and James gets out of work at 6.30 - are there lights at Mitch?

it's just getting a bit complicated trying to get all the games booked in when I've got cackloads of PM's flying around about fixtures

I put it in the calender as 6:30 when James said evening...

Zombie Vs Sparkle Motion fixture on the League calendar should be an evening fixture - I have work until 17:00 at the earliest. NE court?

Yep, Mitch has lights. Currently until 9:00.

  • I'm with Bill on this one.

With regards to the stated points, the crucial one is the first:
    1) I seem to remember that when I goal reffed at Mitch, the advice I got was that goal height should be taken as the height of a large orange traffic cone. It seems to me that Rik applied the same logic. If you've got varying heights of cone or post, then a judgement call **has **to be made. Rik has done so, and that judgement call **must **be respected.
    2) Challenge duly noted
    3) Also duly noted, but the telling words are "final decision"
    4) If you're worried about time, why not ask the ref to discuss the issue after the game? Admittedly, it's very easy to say this with the benefit of hindsight.

As was noted earlier in the thread, situations like this suggest the need for a pre-match briefing by the ref, involving all members of the teams, and any goal refs. If that comes out of this incident, I'd say that's progress.

    BAD // 8pm // newington

your game against BR is going to take at least half an hour. It's unlikly you'll be able to make it down to Newington for 8pm if you play at mitch.

The FIFA decision described in the article is without precedent, whereas the examples of situations in football where a ball has been well over the line and not been called a 'goal' are multiple, and the reverse ie a goal been given when the ball was definitely over the line, happened in extra time in a World Cup Final. That made the score 3-2. The final score was 4-2, and even thought everyone knows the goal wasn't a goal, the score of that game remains 4-2.

    yawn!

    ;)

I know fuck all about football, Bill. I'll leave it to you.

  • Wow this is a real hot potato!

You were given bad advice. The rule states that the height of goals is cone height (which means the height of the cones at the given goal, not the height of some cone that a ref has in his or her head). If there are actually different height cones on the same court, then something needs to be agreed upon by the teams present, but it most certainly is not whatever the ref decides without having the players agree upon it (e.g., in the middle of a game).

  • Wayne: BAD* wouldn't mind playing after 8 if you're required to play at Mitch...

    *I know Dave wouldn't mind.

  • sweet - cheers BADDIES

  • ;1032981']I put our game against SM in the calender more than a week ago at Mitch and now it's changed to Newington. We will be playing at Mitch, it's our home game so if you're not there it's a forfeit.

sorry I changed it, it had no location so I put it as newington. Apples will come and play at mitch also after you've grannied sparkle.

Actually Landslide left his can of beer in the top of the post at the given goal.

  • Gabes and I made up. I don't think the rest of you will be so lucky.
