  • Here's my project. (It's a touring bike, please ignore the derailleur hanger.) Lots of filing and shaping to do yet - the joint in the foreground is the only one that's been smoothed. Getting a bit carried away and thinking about rounding off all the edges - the shoulders on the lugs, the seat post clamp, the fork crown, everything. I like the idea of giving it a liquid look, as if the whole thing is a one piece organism. And having unmodified off the shelf lugs from Ceeway on a bike you've built yourself seems like a missed opportunity. (I built it on Dave Yates' course.)

Am also not sure whether to get any components painted. I was going for an old school look - just paint the frame pearl white and have polished components. But maybe that's boring. Why not an electric blue frame with matching seat post and stem? I dunno. Could also paint the gear levers, the chainring (a big aero Rotor Cranks thing), the headset...where does it end? I even caught myself lusting after chrome bar tape on this shouty red Walker. http://www.londonfgss.com/thread29-386.html#post894889

I suppose the only things I can't paint are the white saddle with world champion stripes. And the white brake hoods. And the grey cables. And I wouldn't paint the wheels. Got to decide asap though - I'm going travelling on it in 6 weeks.
