I'm pretty confident, and anyone that matters knows my views on the acceptance of fat people in society. That others have gone on TV, radio, and print to say the same things, did not therefore need further embellishment by me.
I can only say that I find Chris Crash's response to fat people "they should be shot", to be as far from my thinking and morality, as are the chances of fish popping into Evans Cycles and asking for a Charge Plug Racer.
There have been some deeply stupid comments on fat people just being lazy, or just eating too much. There is now evidence that being fat is due in part to some people's genetic markers. Its the same therefore as asking a skinny person to just eat more. As if one's appetite can be controlled without the brain messages to the stomach being inhibited or being unrestricted as the case may be.
It is very difficult for me to argue anything with people so ingrained in the "fat is lazy" side of the argument. I do know that in time, science will educate them. But at the moment, I find it best to leave the haters to hate. After all, what other enjoyment do they have?
What hurts me, is the effect that it has on those that are not strong-willed. The abuse makes them turn inward, and food then provides a fervent comfort. A cycle is then born, that would not have, if the larger person, were made to feel normal, and that there was a place for them......and maybe they'd want to join others in some social exercise.....like cycling.
Its known that I'm very confident, but many fat people are not. I'm lucid whereas some fat people go from minute to minute, worrying about where the next verbal attack will come from....and this perpetuates a further reluctance to be as social as they could. The large lady aerobic dancers didn't look a very pretty sight on BBC, but to hear the spokeswoman speak with tear-filled eyes, about the unfairness of the abuse, made me sad.
How does one defend oneself from a whole nation? Well, being mentally hardened is one way, but as a particular thread on this forum shows, .....not everybody is tough....all the time. People break, so why enjoy the misery of people who have fat rolls?
Is it because they can't fight back? Maybe. I can, but I've never needed to.
Whats also really sad, is that some forumengers on here, that I really respect, who are into personal training, or physical conditioning, are the most vocal in decrying the physical state of fat people. I won't get into an argy-bargy with them, but I do know that they are more wrong than they could ever imagine. But it would be impossible to convince them. That is life. Its almost funny.
