I'm going to tell you a story
Once upon a time... a Portuguese emigrant in Canada invested all his money, he had made from fishing business (around US$1 million), into a Co-Op, also run by another portuguese emigrant. This Co-Op was formed by all these micro businesses, mostly portuguese owners, that together were already going strong in terms of investment appeal. Wrong moves, all money lost. Now typically one would expect the are insurance companies behind any investment society, surprise, they weren't insured. The Portuguese fishing fella lost it to booze, then lost his family, then lost his house... went for the guy behind the Co-Op, killed him, was convicted to life, served 10... came out, killed himself. The end.
