I've decided that Superprecise, I agree with allot of what you said... but just to deal with one point quickly
the descion started with the Sherriff Star, which seems to be functionally poorly designed, but visually beautiful. Therefore I wholeheartedly agree with MT's post above.
On your essential point that retro (as in your last para) is bad bc its fake, etc. I've decided that for me its all about how you replicate. If it is done with quality and integrity, then it is ok with me (see pic)
I don't think that practicaly, reproducing old designs impacts on new design, and I don't think it takes anything away from the old ones. If its a pleasing design that works its all good to me.
Using your eg of a mock-tudor house (which I think is great BTW), they are usually done in completely the wrong place and in the wrong way... like lacing that Phill hub above to some sic deep-Vs and put it on a BMW Gangsta. But on a classic styled bike it works.
