But coming down the hill from the A40 (Beaconsfield) into Wooburn Green was as good as it got for this particular 10 year old - happy memories!
That (Holtspur Lane) is usually where I hit my maximum speed on a ride round those parts, as long as no drivers obey the 40mph speed limit and make me brake. It's only 10%, but long and straight-ish.

Cheers Hippy, email sent, are you doing it?

Yeah, I'm going to have a go at the 10 (it'll be my first actual 10 if they let me do it solo) and then the hill climb. Both just for a laugh. It's fucking embarassing man.. I had to DUST my road bike off today.
I also finally got around to fixing the PT mount and then downloaded whatever was in the PT.. my software was empty because it had been so long since I'd logged a ride.. my trip to France in July to be precise. :S
The point of these is to get a baseline for next year when I'll have the TT bike ready and probably be doing more TTs than anything else since they're substantially cheaper than travelling around to do sportives.

Good to meet you today Hippy, hope the hillclimb went ok, you were pretty swift in the 10

And you.
The hill climb was a non-event. I was shagged after the 10 and then arrived late, pushing it to get there (too much chatting in cafe). I didn't come last but I basically shut down half way up the hill and just rolled over the line. Lucky it wasn't steep like the Catford!
Pretty happy with my TT. PB for me (helps being my first 10 haah!). I'm actually just happy that I finally got out of bed and did something. Now my motivation is coming back I will actually do some training and when I get the TT machine should give some of these faster guys some grief. :)
I think Dave(?) from Westerley said he's done 22s on that course with good conditions.
They've got some photos up on their site:

Cheers Hippy , thought the hillclimb straight after would have been hard. Quite liked like course yesterday, will give it ago next year when it's warmer.
Well done for the PB -

A brief report, because fixed wheel interest was weak. There were two riders on fixed, but neither would want their times published here, or anywhere else for that matter.
However those of you who know the course will probably be astounded by Mr. Sybrandy's ride, which is reported on London Cycle Sport (Time Trial Results section) and the Hounslow website (News section).
We think his time of 54.42 is a course record, and we would be interested to hear of any faster rides on West of Windsor. I'm not completely amazed he can go that fast, but what does surprise me is that he can do it when the rest of the field were returning times that look pre-war (1939-45 that is)
The moral seems to be: if you want to be a good time triallist, ride lots of road races.

Wow The London Milenium 10 turned out to be a very 'sporting course' with a big hill in the middle and a 2 mile rough road drag up to it.
Was feeling terrible going, felt like packing but ploughed on and finished with a 27.56, not too bad considering.
hippy would have suited you

Good work. Remind me again, where that course was?
I came 2nd in a hill climb today, run by West Drayton MBC. Report here.
Since I beat my fellow Willesdenites, this might mean I'm club hill climb champion. "Ha! No fucking way!" I believe were my words when this was suggested.

Apparently, Robert Förster, Team Gerolsteiner and now Milram sprinter, was hill climbing champion of Saxony (or something) in his youth.

If I'm going the other way, maybe I'll be a mountain goat before I die..

They mis-spelled your name on the results sheet, too.
-
• #515
I know. I did try to scribble it correctly on the start sheet. I'm used to variations.
For what I consider a simple name most people fail to get it right.
I spell it out to people over the phone and they still get it wrong.
And how you mispronounce it is beyond me. Bloody foreigners.. -

I don't get that variation at all--it's only the four above.

It's west of Cambridge, basically a straight out and back course. About 55 miles up the M11, quite a way in fact. On rough roads, on the plus side every entrant received a bottle of beer

Impressive wattage, seriously! How much weight do you need to drop before you drop BMMF up a hill?

Why do I keep entering the wrong events?! Hill climbing when I could've been getting finish line beer?! I'm an idiot.

I don't know his power profile so no idea. I have only beaten him up hill once before and that was exceptional circustances, ie. he'd been off the bike 6 months, he was sick, he was fixed and I was geared and I was quite fit at the time. He still passed me like I was stopped but then I caught him up again. In normal circumstances.. he will always beat me.
I do know that given past experience watching him climb away from me, if he was reasonably fit he would make 20-30 seconds on me over that climb. I did it pretty much untrained (I did a 10 and a hill climb last week, prior to that my last climb was in the Pyrenees in July!!) but it was almost to my advantage since I rode out of my skin not really knowing what I was doing. I don't remember taking as long to recover after any sprint finish in a race. I'm annoyed i didn't bother changing my HR batteries.. would've been interesting to see HR vs. Power. Oh well.
I think also, since it was a shorter climb I would do better. Longer stuff and steeper stuff don't work so well with my.. err Mr Universe physique.. ;)
I reckon BMMF could challenge the 1.33 record over that hill.
If i can enter, haven't actually got a partner yet, so...
