  • De-lugged?

I think youll find youll be left with a bunch of loose tubes if you tried to remove them.

  • i mean as in the mounts for gear levers, bottle cages, brake cables etc... obviously.
coming from a bmx background, where the posts the brake arms pivot on are referred to as "lugs".

thanks for picking me up on a tiny flaw in terminology though!

    in fact... from google:

Definitions of lug on the Web:

    • a projecting piece that is used to lift or support or turn something

    is there as well as:

    • Lugged steel frame construction is a method of building bicycle frames using steel tubing and sockets called lugs. For most of the history of the bicycle, steel has been the material of choice for high-quality bicycle frames (though its dominance has waned in the last two decades)

so really, i wasnt using the wrong word, and neither were you. its just an issue of applying common sense to work out which instance of the word should be applied. clearly you are lacking in common sense!

  • de braze-ons?

fuck why am I up so late? (beer, whisky & kona is the answer)

saw blueish bike with green tyres and toe clips, plus stickered up charge plug - both locked up by the bull today...

  • fucking rain! whats the back up plan?

  • stay in bed

  • whoops wrong thread, this was meant to go on the half marathon thingy! noob.

however, when talking about road bikes, lugs refer to the bits that join the tubes together. which is why DFP thought you were talking about actual lugs, not braze-ons. he lacks no more common sense than you do.

  • do you not think its pretty obvious i wouldnt try to remove the parts of my frame that hold it together?! i guess my terminology was technically wrong, but still, i think everyone knew what i meant really...

  • not trying to have a go at you or anything, but at least two people thought you meant what you said. it never would have occurred to me that you meant something other than lugs.

plus. some people try to do pretty daft things to their bikes, because not every cyclist is clued up on bikes. i dont know you from adam. how would i know that you didnt think lugs could be removed?

anyway... you mentioned youre from a bmx background. still ride?

  • yeah fair play, just like, theres a lot of people on internet forums who pull people up for the stupidest little things just to be annoying. i thought it was pretty obvious what i meant, maybe you guys didnt feel the same, haha. i dont think my frame even has lugs, its literally welded together tubes!

nah i dont ride bmx anymore, used to a lot back in the day, before i became too unfit and lazy, haha. still have a lot of love for bikes though, hence building up the fixie! just a nice way to get around the city really.. you ride bmx then?

  • well i quit for like 3 years, partly due to bad back pain, parly due to demotivation... back on bike now after my friends remotivated me. annoyingly, they hardly ride now that summer's over, its been at least 2 weeks since i had a proper sesh!

i want to go to polo regularly too - just need to rebuild my polo bike first. you been yet?

  • ah right fair play, sounds pretty similar to me, i stopped riding about a year before i came to uni and ive been here 2 years now, dont know anyone in brum who rides!

i havent been to any polo yet no, i dunno if i will to be honest, i cant risk breaking my bike cause i only have space for the one bike here and i need to use it to get to around on! where abouts is polo held in brum? might possibly come down one day..

  • Ive seen a few examples of people grinding down lugs to make there frame look a bit like smoothed fillet brazed joins. I thought you might mean something like that or be totally clueless and literally about to begin trying to remove your actual lugs.

I too am familiar with the term of lugs meaning the bits you attach U brakes too but as road bikes dont have these I discounted it from my thought process. So yeah, wasnt mocking you.

  • elkie - polo (in birmingham at least) doesn't seem to be that hard on bikes. we're all a bit weak and slow compared to the big boys in that london, and hence in a few months of 4-8 of us playing weekly i've only seen two pringled wheels, and both of those were thoroughly deserved on weak-ass 70s shitheap bikes (sorry blowieben).

also, if you only need your bike for getting around on, you can easily overbuild the wheels a bit. the problem with my bike is that i also do 2-3 hour rides in the countryside on it and want it to be a bit lightweight.

come down and play (you'd be surprised how fun it is).

see the sticky 'bike polo events' thread at the top of this forum. its usually held in the courts at calthorpe park

i wouldnt worry about brreaking your bike - i used my work bike a few times, was scared of breaking it and fell over a lot but havent damaged it at all - what's gonna break your bike is crashing while riding really fast, which polo isnt. you'd have to be playing really rough - i.e. intentionally whacking their spokes - to do any damage to anyone else

oh dan ffs this is the second time lol

  • i'm too fast...

  • the only thing worrying me is "weak-ass 70s shitheap bike" seems to be a very accurate description of my bike... haha!
but yeah ill try and make it down sometime, could be fun!

back on topic, i saw a couple of bikes locked up near the bull today, a red raleigh and a black heavily stickered bike, both with drops...

also, a guy rode over to me whilst i was on my way home from town, handed me a Ride BHM flyer and had a quick chat, seemed like a really sound guy, was nice to be approached by someone for no reason other than a love of bikes! didnt catch his name or anything, but if you see this, thanks a lot!

    Your mum's a weak-ass 70s shit heap. Don't mess.

  • Ladypool Road 6pm last night carrying a spare tyre over shoulder?

  • saw a guy on with a black frame and naked drops in town twice yesterday. once goin round the back of new street station kinda way nd then again goin up the road next to tesco towards the park.

and spotted someone goin down russel road on a pink frame with drops was dark so couldnt see who they were.

  • Man with green hoodie on white bike in the bullring yesterday, an oap on what looked like his grandson's hhsb with flat chrome bars and brakeless in erdington, man in bobble hat (probably student) asking me about my bike.

  • man in bobble hat (probably student)

haha i love reading your descriptions, they're funny. i wish you presented news.
