  • Where's dopeybollox in all this?

  • Furioustiles, Ant and I had already moved of the Sevenoaks. The ride to Sevenoaks was the hardest part. Riding from London Bridge to Islington was really pleasant. Flat roads ftw.

  • ^dropout, polkinghorn, claus, pilky, illy, stelle, jonny, who is rlplza ride third from right - bmmf you with us at that point?, rpm, dogsballs. sam taking the photo. good forum turn out last year, and there were others not in that snap

Wasn't me Jonny, I too had already moved on at that point. I did take this one though.

  • No I fucking shouldn't. I leave that to the true nutters.

As I told you last night (I think - I told someone anyhow), years ago I read an article by Chris Boardman on how to ride a hill climb. He stated that you should be losing consciousness as you cross the line, collapsing into the arms of your helper. My thoughts then, which were along the lines of "Fuck. That. Shit.", remain.

    andyp's favourite quote??

  • You wait until my book comes out Sam, that'll be full of stale anecdotes.

  • You wait until my book comes out Sam, that'll be full of Dale anecdotes.

    Why oh why?

  • sorry to be missing this year. have thoroughly enjoyed both the ride down and the competition itself over the last two years.

good luck to BMMF, Claus, Texas and Illy in the climb itself - any other forumengers doing it?

yeah man, i'm in catford, but not bec - form got to them late... feeling really tired right now and never ridden the hill, but how hard can it be :\ i'm also doing two HCs the day before :

if i'm not racing i'll ride up to it anyway and spectate.

hope the weather's good, and we get a tailwind!

  • Good luck with Saturday's climbs. Pete Tadros is the man in form. I spoke to Jim Cheek (he runs a saxophone shop in Crowborough - good pair of lungs!) and mentioned you'd won a club climb down that way recently, and he said he'll look out for you.

  • ^where/when's that picture from?

  • I would love to come along on this guys... but i've been well ill this week, came into work today for the first time this week!

i'll see how i'm feeling on saturday.... but it seems like a nice little 'get my lungs working again' ride.

would also be a good excude to crack out the road bike.

  • I'll be meeting the ride there so look out for me, I'll probably be on a geared De Rosa.

I suggest we meet outside the Cafe St Germain, the traditional meeting place for south London cyclists.

May see you there Andy. 8:45?

  • 0845 SHARP according to Will. :-)

  • Word.

  • I'll be there too, I think. Is it a meet at 8.45 or leave at 8.45? Got it

  • 815 SHARP at smithfields. in crystal palace it is likley to be approx 845 as i like to get there have a sneeky expresso....

  • There's a good interview with Max Pendleton in the brochure. He basically says the record will never be beaten because to do so would require a tail wind, and the overgrown trees prevent there ever being a tail wind.

Did my final bit of training tonight. Now it is all massages from my soigneur and resting till the big day.

  • Excellent - I'm free, and have barely done a forum ride this year. Will see you at Crystal Palace

  • I gave up training a few weeks ago. The hibernation season has kicked in, and with it the urge to sleep/stuff my face/get shit-faced.

It's okay though. I'm riding track next year. Being lazy, fat, and alcoholic appears de rigeur for that discipline.

  • Just got a Sunday pass so will be meeting you all at Smithfield, I am loving the idea of a quick ristretto at CP Will, never been in there just met others outside before then a lovely roll out to Yorks, bit of cheering and banter, roll back, happy days...

  • the ride down there is nice but it is hilly but also doable on a fixed (i'll be on gears). you do need to be reasonable fit, bring water, food and appropriate clothing. the pace will be 'rolling'.

He's not kidding; this isn't "forum social" ride. The past two years I've done this; I've ended up on my own. That's not a criticism, it's a hilly and fast ride and the guys up front did worry about me.

If you just want to watch the race, get on the A23 which takes you past Biggin Hill and across the M25. It' a lot flatter and faster. Also worth keeping in mind if you get burnt on the way there and want an easier ride back.

Not for me this time round as I'm more out of shape than normal. Good luck to the forumengers who'll be racing, though.

  • good points stompy. it is a hilly ride but as i pointed out at norths it is well worth it.

this is a TNRC type ride. you need to be reasonably fit...etc as we want to make the start of the race.

  • quick ristretto, then a lovely roll out to Yorks, bit of cheering and banter, roll back, happy days...

    oh happy days indeed!
