Theft want to able to sell the bike, the last thing they want is to sell a bike without a back wheel, front wheel are easy to replace but back wheels less so.
Don't assumed that thieves are stupid, that's the first mistake cyclists made when locking their bike.
GA2G post not mine i just quoted it.

I thought a wheel is under so much tension from the spokes that a saw would get jammed trying to cut a rim. Wouldn't a bolt cropper also struggle with the tension?
No. Obviously not.
A bolt-cutter doesn't have a sawing action. It would snip the spokes like cutting paper with scissors, and once the tyre is removed, the rim would cut easily.
As for Edscoble's saying that a bike thief wouldn't want the hassle of trying to find a rear wheel to resell a bike - I disagree. The thief could simply sell the frame. Then swap the parts with other stolen bikes. Most professional bike thieves would have MANY rear wheels from other (maybe less expensive) bikes they could substitue with.

Hello
Think that the use of text speak is frowned upon on this site.
Doubt a market is the best lace to buy a fixie. Why not have a look in the classified section.
But this is a thread about locks not a thread about where to buy a bike.

Further to what I had stated before about thieves and the Sheldon Method. It occured to me that a thief stealing an bike (especially fxd/ss), and leaving the rear wheel behind, could throw on any other fxd/ss rear wheel, and it would actually appeal to hipsters MORE (because they prefer mismatched wheels). A happy bonus for the thief.
Also, the majority of bikes are pathetically locked up with cable locks, ineffective u-locks, or just badly locked.....so there is ample opportunity for a thief stealing loads of bikes, and mismatching wheels.
And lynx, I still feel, that apart from discussion of the Sheldon Method's potential possibility for total failure, I don't believ that anything has been added to the knowledge on bike security on this forum. I will keep looking to see if anything new is shared though.

a popular question asked by mr scoble in many of the stolen bike threads is HOW WAS YOUR BIKE LOCKED AND WHAT LOCK?
sorry if i missed something.
That's one of my fave questions.
And the favourite answer..?

Or you get "Some Abus cable lock, can't remember. Shrug. Avoid..."
Just seems like there are so many discussions of great locks. And so few bikes that get locked up with them.

The thing that I'm going to look in to is to try and increase Fox's google database. That way we can have an actual details of locks used and methods that they were defeated, if the lock was left.
Next time I'm in contact with Almax of capt cropper I'll ask to see what if they are attacking cycle locks.

If anyone actually admits what lock they were using...

True but trying to find that balance.
It was all oxford round keys and Kyrpotnite (sp) round key locks that failed by that mathod. Strangely the cheaper locks did not. K dmitted it and replaced the locks whilst oxford only replaced the locks after press preasure.
Thank you for the link to that post, I'll pm Fox.
