I gather you never got a bike stolen. It's just a bike, but it was mine and no one had the right to take it. I used it for social events and to commute, and now all that has been disrupted.
There are tons of things the police/authorities could do if they wanted. They're just not willing to invest time in chasing bike thieves... and thieves know this.
Try not to be so accommodating with the situation.
