Probably best described as 'rolling'. No big hills, but very little flat apart from Steyning bypass. The first 5 miles or so are fast on a minor road, followed by about 6 or 7 miles on the A24 dual carriageway which has a couple of draggy climbs, then onto the Steyning road which is a real roller coaster for a couple of miles before the bypass, then gentle fall down the Adur valley to the Shoreham turn, and back up to the bypass where you finish.

The flat bit sounds great, hopefully will be good road surfaces and not too cold, wil be my first 25 in 9 years so won't be breaking the 50 minute barrier or probably the hour

Now, what would Brad Wiggins do? :)
What would Cancellara do? He put 3'40" into McCann today over 30 miles

Yay me! First time under the hour for about 18 years. Haven't seen what Nik Bowdler did yet, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him beat me by 10 minutes. VTTA 25 on the H25/2 this morning, nice day for it. That's me done for the year unless conditions look even better next Sunday.

Chapeau :)
I got a 3rd today, behind Pete Tadros & Pnut Arnold, so I'm well chuffed too.

Well done mitre!
Is this the course where you barrel down hill at the start for ages? The Ski Slope? I was supposed to ride it again this year to try and go under the hour but sportives and laziness got in the way. Next year I will have a TT bike though andnoless excuses. -

Hi Scarlett, was that a hillclimb?
-

Well done mitre, you#ll be riding your tt though i take it?
-

Yes, it was on the Ski Slope, full result at http://www.mickfountain.co.uk/t821s.htm , Nik B only beat me by 7:07 which is pretty good going for me. The south westerly wind flatters fixed riding as you get a headwind on the downhill where you'd otherwise be spinning out, and a tailwind coming back up the 10 course.
Won't be riding our club's TT as I'm down for assisting the timekeeper at the finish, but I hope to see those of you who are riding at the lavish and protracted prize giving

There is a WLC Hill climb on Sunday 18th October 2009. 1st Rider off will be 09.31, and it is to be held on circuit HCC011. Wooburn Green?
Anyone done this? If it's West London Combine, I'm tempted to do it for a laugh.

Not me, doing the London Milenium 10 on that morning
-
• #491
Is that a whole bunch of laps over the Millenium Bridge? :)

• #492
If only, apparently it's west of Cambridge, who know s why its called that

HCC011. Wooburn Green?
Anyone done this?MDCC are running their hill climb on it the week before, I think as the third of the three climbs that day. It's a pretty straightforward hill climb, starts quite easy and keeps getting steeper as you go up, something like 300ft ascent in the half mile. Entry on the line, and foreigners welcome!

Oh, and for this forum: fixed is no longer fastest.
May be not but I can point out that Scott Povey got 4th in the PTW25 in 48-52 on fixed. Not sure what gear but it looked mahoosive!

Pretty certain it is up Windsor Hill - google maps search windsor hill wooburn will show you where.
I know that hill pretty well as I grew up near there. I always reckoned the hill on the other side of the valley (Whitepit Lane from memory) was harder. Couldn't use it as a hill climb though as there is too much traffic going up to Flackwell Heath.

The middle bit of Whitepit is definitely steeper at 20% (marked on the sign), but then it gets easy, so Windsor Hill might actually be harder. Juniper Lane just around the corner is a bastard too.

Forum members are welcome at this event, held as usual on the West of Windsor course next Sunday (11th October). Meet in the Bird's Hill golf course car park, start time 10 am, but you'll need to be there a bit before that if you want to enter on the line. Fuller details on the club website.
I intend to ride fixed, and since I've not turned a pedal in anger once this year you should all be able to beat me without much difficulty. Wouter Sybrandy intends to turn his attention from the Premier Calender to this humble club event and he will be the man to beat. -

But coming down the hill from the A40 (Beaconsfield) into Wooburn Green was as good as it got for this particular 10 year old - happy memories!
Kiln Lane was another steep little mother.
