I did it last year and it's awesome - the course/food-drink stops/landscape/hospitality/the fact no-one speaks english etc! Would fully recommend it to ANYONE. Think there were only 92 brits doing it last year (out of xthousand in total) - i'm sure it will start getting over-subscribed in future years, a god hopes it won't end up something like l'etape.

There were thousands doing it? I thought it was quite a small event. Would a 1980s steel fixie or ss conversion be ok to use if it looked retro enough?

not sure booga, last year i would have said yes, but the rules have changed this year so as far as i know it's really strict, not sure a conversion would hack it unless it had all pre 87 parts (mostly)

Yeah, theyve got really strict since it became so popular. Its kind of a shame, but at the same time Im glad theyve ended the MTB entries. Its all about bikes with "switch lever on the oblique loom tube, toe clips and belts, external brake wires" (You can tell the english is improving because it no longer says "foot stopping crates")

TiLover, Ill be back this year (assuming my transport deal works out) on this , my previously-registered 1947 Hobbs (or "Hoggs of Gargican" if you believe the website) with 3 speed 1/8 derailleur, mostly because I really cant justify another bike right now..Ill probably be doing the camping again in the football ground, but that hotel sounds amazing. Ill keep an eye out for the raleigh...

That was amazing. I swear every year gets better. Or at least more unusual. The Rapha van and I just got back after the longest drive ever. French radio sucks.."Cent Sept Sept. La Route en Musique. La prochaine? Les Scorpions.." I think I have pictures somewhere, but I took way less this year..I think this time I was more into just hanging around listening to stories and people. Somehow I missed Francesco Moser though..

Tilover, Im glad I finally got to meet you at the end (random Harrogate coincidences aside) You definitely won Most Dedicated Facial Hair. Ill see you at the next leeds alleycat? And I want dibs on that bike :)
