Sorry i didnt make it to polo last night, got caught up in making a meal with my hosuemates.
I emailed the guys at the Manchester University Bike Polo or whatever they are called, here was their reply:
Hi Woody
Good to hear from you, at the moment we're all effectively little more than beginners. Me and my friends that set up the society play casually but at the moment were just trying to get things off the ground. Involvement of more experienced players would be amazing. Virtually everyone we signed up had never played before so at the moment although we have a lot of interest we have little actual experience.
At the moment the society is being slowly put together I'm currently sorting out the admin with the union before getting people playing. We've got plenty of emails the interest from the freshers fair so we decided to leave it a week or two to buy us some time to set things up properly. I'm going to get my lot together and drag them to play on Saturday if that's ok we can sort more stuff out then.Joe

yeha i meailed them telling them to come on thursday aswell, i also suggested that some of the student players, such as myself, become part fo the reunning of the society, then rather than setting up a whole new thing from the ground up they can just be assimilated into what we already have by way of expertese, know how and playing-schedule
hopefully they will agree, would also be prettty good to get our hands on that email list... -
Definatly thats exactly what we need, we've got access to the union funding so it would make perfect sense for you guys to take up roles on the committee if you fancy it. In terms of our imediate plans we were aiming for a social next week or a the week after dependent on getting hold of tickets. In addition to that our plan was going to be to get a taster session going which would be a hell of a lot easier to do with some of you guys! How many of you are students? Also there's nothing against having a fair few people who aren't at the uni involved. We managed to get plenty of uni id numbers at the freshers fair so we should have a reasonable budget from the union as well. Not quite sure how it works but the treasurer is going fo his training on the 10th so we can find out what we can do with it then. Looking forward to seeing you to sort this out further.

sounds promissing! i told him to come and have a face to face chat on thursday, or saturday (although i wont be there on saturday, off the bash the fasch in town) and i asked if he could send an email out to the email list telling them about the i bike mcr mini fest "taster sessions" we are having this week, hopefully he does!

Them: The emails are currently are still all on paper but I should have some time over the weekend to get it done. The list is huge and in a bit of a state so may take some time. The plan is once its typed up to have a casual pub crawl based social hopefully next week during which we can direct people towards taster sessions.
Me: Ok. are you guys going to be coming down on saturday for the polo session? I am not goign to be there as i am going to be at the Anti-EDL march in town, but there will be plenty of other people there. my number is 07908465120, gimme a text if u cant find polo and i can tell u where it is. it would be really good for someone to meet up with you guys.
How much polo have u lot played? do you have mallets and so on? as for a pub crawl and then aim people towards a tatser session i dont know if this is the best way forwards. I don't mean to tell you what to do with the society that you guys started, and i was too lazy to ever get round to starting, but we are really quite into this polo thing, and it would be really great if we managed to get some new players who wanted to come and play every week or even every fortnight (or three times a week!). Maybe the society could organise an indoor venue (we know of a few) where we could hold a couple of taster sessions? they are not really expensive, and maybe people could donate £1 oor £2 on top fo society money? that way we could entice people to play when it is warm and dry, get them hooked and then let them realise we have to play in wet and freezing Manchester parks, haha
