Conventionally, calling a Japanese person a Nip is considered more offensive than calling them a Jap; by making a rational, culturally aware, case for Nip, I was attempting to point out the absurdity of political correctness police attempting to speak on behalf of those with alien ethnicities.
Gaijin like us should not presume to guess which term is likely to be found more offensive to the natives of Nippon-koku, we should attempt as a matter of politeness to find out, from them, how we should refer to them in conversation.
