  • Nice man, it works! treads a dangerous path between old and new but comes out unscathed as far as I can see.

  • Few of you may have seen my winter beater / Raleigh hack which I got last autumn. The frame fitted me so well and the ride was so damn comfy I decided to invest in a powder coat by Armourtex (who are excellent, cannot recommend enough).

So here is a sneak peek of before and after, apologies for crap pics as I do not have a decent camera facility at present.

I will post more in the Armourtex thread too.

    What size frame is that?

  • Posted my bike here a little while ago, just a little update.

I was going to say, bout time that garage door was painted.

  • sup

this could very well be my first post (except for adding me on jol's list for his straps)

    I'm a lurker basically
but since i got my wheels done i'm finally posting my bike on the intraweb

here it is, let me know what you think

    cheers

Nice bike! the one thing i would change is the stem.... a standerd old style quill stem would look good, thats just my opinion, otherwise very nice.

  • looks nice - what size frame is that?

Thanks, its got a 62 c-t seat tube and a 58.5 c-c top tube, i'm getting a 59 c-t frame this evening, the quinn is fine but a bit big, i'd rather have a little more seat tube.

  • I was going to say, bout time that garage door was painted.

    Haha, certainly was :)

  • re cycled looks great, would fit me perfect ;) if you're ever selling i'd love to buy it be a nice companion for my quinn roadbike :)

Thanks mate, its a great bike, really fun ride, the frame cost me £370... so if i sell it. it wouldn't be cheap! :)

  • just picked up my new frame............

Now i am wandering what to build it up with..... and how am i going to afford it! :)
also i'm hoping it will take 23mm tyres... rob says the tubs on there in the pictures are 22mm so i should be ok :)

  • I want this bike soooo much!

sorry buddy, but this is coming my way :)

Looks nice, but if you're waiting for Jol's straps you should really have some foot retention in the meantime!

thanks, will treat her very well :)
If you have any idea's of how you'd build her then please share...

  • speaking of gazelles, i picked one up last week, had quite a bit of rust on it been polishing it for a while

    How did you polish it?

I'm cleaning up a mercian - done most of it, but any extra info always helps.

  • just with an old t-shirt and lots of rubbing :)

Silver: Sug75 cranks & a chainring like in the photo, shiny Campag aero seatpost, Chris King gripnut headset, Cinelli stem & bars, Royce hubs on shallow section silver NM rims.

Black: Flite saddle, Fizik bartape, all black tyres.

As you can see I don't give a fuck about all matching Italian, British, American or Japanese parts.

If I like something, and it doesn't look catastrophically wrong. It's goin' on the bike :)

    Like it! thanks

I was already definetly going to put sug 75's on it, and was acctually considering royce hubs, the problem with the drops is that i had some crieteriums and i just found them really uncomfortable.... perhaps i'm just to used to risers :)
also, i'm going to use it round town and i find brakeless with drops a bit wierd, brakeles with risers FTW in my opinion, but ye drops would look awesome on this roberts. Hmmm decisions...

If you wanna use risers just put some black Soyo/Champ/Strong V grips on them... job done.

I know exactly what you mean, but it's just a case of what you're used to. I ride brakless risers too, but don't listen to me, I'm a hipster.

it will, look like it could take even 24mm tyres.

  • That Roberts is so fine!

  • Agreed, tidy Roberts...

Well my winter/ off road/ big tyre (ish) bike is about on schedule - cranks, bars and headset are winging their way as we speak the away we go. Gone for a slightly bmx/hhsb look as there's nowt 'classic' about the frame anyway. 2 weeks and we'll be off!

I think i will just put some risers on it, i know i wouldn't enjoy it as much if it had drops.

Great, its going to be tight!

  • other wheels other crank other headset other straps, wanted to change the bb to a campy one but couldnot get one of the damn rings off
