  • why try just one more, the perfect pub for south easts might be a bit more difficult to source than souths, or wests, or norths.

It took West beers a bloody long time to find The Greyhound. Moving around keeps it fresh anyway.

  • why try just one more, the perfect pub for south easts might be a bit more difficult to source than souths, or wests, or norths, as said previously, I personally never had any problems with the kings arms, but we moved anyway, so lets spend a little time finding a pub which ticks most of the boxes, for most of the people.

Because I like the roebuck, and I like having a regular drinking hole.

  • ^ i like the roebucket, too!
went in on my wayyy oops, sorry, there we go again and had a quick chat. they did not only seemed to have missed us yesterday, they actually did say it in my face ... that we have been missed.

... and the bar manager (this would be the girl with the blondish ponytail) expressed her appreciation towards our bubbly and colorful crowd. i explained (tried at least) why and how things go the way they do with our SE(x) Beers venue... and that first of all the food price seems the bugger for most, some however seem to dislike the rather quiet (or did MG used the word flat ;) mood.

however, during the eve yesterday, i started to miss the evenings we had in the RB and found it more important to maybe somewhat 'dominate' a place rather than beeing crouched in and sized up all the time ... though i like the companionship (as usual wooooord SE peeps rule!) i felt a bit out of place there. nothing to worry, just not that of a yeah come here and chill vibe really.

the Rake seems small, dunno how i get that impression ("... the Rake also claims to be the smallest pub in London and, in our experience, that claim seems to have some substance ...")

well and the food thing, i doubt the Rake has a kitchen, besides i rarely saw people eating in the G but i arrived summot late, i admit.

so, ah and before i go back to bed - yes i am selfinflicted ill and i will never stop at the new cross inn again on my way home ... alone at least ... aver!
@timmeh: i missed you and could have used your help to get me out there before they threw me out, next time mate, next time - if they let me in again that is, they should have a cage for me, so that the visitors feel saver.

so where was i, ... ah ja

the pavement in front of the R_Buck is almost done and looks like it will be free space soon. it seems civilized compared to the Gee, where they have a poodle working the bar *lol

@Nhatti: so it seems, i now strongly lean towards the Roe as well *high_five

i say fuck ticking boxes and lets start hang out there as the SE beers and random meet and exchange parts meet up. it'll all come together once we build a relationship with that place. and for the doubters, i'll entertain you with nonsense to keep you off thinking about the atmosphere while CJames still has the dress and blond wick joker up his sleeve, i am sure it'll be great. i even buy you a beer if they except my money *prints out Kreutzbergdollars

    *phew MY HEAD HURTS!

  • ^Reeen's most elegant post ever.

    I vote roebuck.

  • After the email sent by that pub I'm not going there again.

  • Why the need to 'own' places?

What the fuck are you lot? Gangsta rappers?

  • Lets try the Rake next week- from Nigels description of it the space issue sounds like a non-issue as there is a large covered space outside, and we all seem to be allergic to being inside.

Personally I smoke like a chimney so am usually to be found outside anyway.

We can always go back to the Roebuck if the Rake fails our "do we feel at home here" criteria.

I for one am looking forward to seeing what the outside area is like when they have finished the current works- if they are sensible it will be a nice place to lock up and so forth, with plenty of elbow room.

  • Won't be there next week as I'm off to see The Pixies then away to Japan. I'll see you at the Roebuck when I return.

    ;)

  • Have a good trip sir- see you at the Roebuck when you return.

Oh- did you work out if you could fit a 59cm Nagasawa frame in your suitcase?

  • Have a good trip sir- see you at the Roebuck when you return.

Oh- did you work out if you could fit a 59cm Nagasawa frame in your suitcase?

Yeah, I'm going to saw it in half.

  • ??

  • Would you mind to saw some Araya rims too? :-)

  • After the email sent by that pub I'm not going there again.

Another good reason to go to the Roebuck ;-)

  • I want to see CrazyJames in a dress because he is so shexy innit.

What about going cross-dressed next week? Guys in dresses, girls wearing suits... ?

    :D

  • It's not going go down well with the locals on my way back

  • What about going cross-dressed next week? Guys in dresses, girls wearing suits... ?

    :D

Don't encourage him. Trust me. Some things cannot be unseen and forgotten.

  • i can speak for all us north drinkers by saying "stop stealing our crowd!"

  • You can't cross-dress in a metropolis like London in todays day and age. It doesn't have the same power it used to. People aren't horrified anymore. They just think you're being trendy.

  • But I don't live in Shoreditch.

  • Exactly. In Shoreditch it would have more power, because there's a strict guide to what IS trendy in that area. You are more likely to be judged. However if you just walk through, say, Peckham, looking like a div but also a div who thinks he owns the place, most people will just think you're a trendy div.

  • That makes little or no sense. Right?

    Yeah.

I think this dissertation reading is taking over my capacity for logical thought. Academic texts can ruin your life with greater speed and accuracy than any narcotic. Maybe that's what happened to Reen. He read too much fucking bullshit.

  • Where I live male species in sports clothing have this serious fear of falling for a dude dress like a lady.

As for the academic readings - yes, it can mess you up. There are some substances available at the campus which can effectively delete your memory.

  • I'm giving up said substances in order to complete my degree. I've been off due to illness for 2 years and I'm just, finally, starting my final year. It's fucking hard work jumping straight back into academia, I do not recommend.

  • Good luck! I wanted to go on some post graduate course in the UK, but it's harder and harder every year - it's a luck of self-discipline which comes with age.

  • Thanks. That's it, really. I mean I do get awfully low about the fact I've had to take two years out, and now have to struggle with that.

But, I need to look at it from the point of view, that, in those two years, I have 'grown up' significantly. 5 Years ago when I started this course, I didn't take it nearly as seriously as I am doing now. I wasn't as good as managing myself as I am now, etc. etc.

Whilst we worry about getting old, we should also remember that we're still growing up. There are always new things to learn, and more challenges, we should seek out and embrace them!

With that, a very tired city gent, is going to bed.
