In Praise of Helmets!
**
I Was riding home from work at 0715 this morning, at a busy traffic light controlled junction, it had been raining and the road was really greasy from the rain and the inevitable diesel spills, in a cycle lane to beat the lights. In their infinite wisdom, my local council has decide to mark the juntion with those stupid cobblestones. The front wheel just went from under me, and slid to the kerb, where i surfed down along the kerb on my side, head bouncing on the floor, feet still clipped into the pedals until I ended up wrapped around the traffic light post. Got up, all embarressed, hopped on the bike and rode the final 4 miles home, feeling a bit sore. To cut this story short, I've not long got back from the Walk in Centre, after being x-rayed and finding out I semi-dislocated my shoulder, and neck whiplash, and will be very stiff and sore for a week or 2. Got a fair bit of gravel rash down my side (funny how my clothes are untouched!). My helmet (Met Styx) looks like it's been dragged under a JCB, but I never felt a thing on my head- if I wasn't wearing it, I'd probably be in hospital still. **I@m telling the kids when they get back from school, if I ever catch them without helmets again, I'm scrapping their bikes!
TFS!
