  • How generous of you.

  • ....and I will be generously appreciative of your generosity Mite. Can I thank you kindly for your suggestions and ask that I be allowed to take these away for careful consideration.

  • I'll generously ignore the sarcasm and suggest that, assuming the Ultremo is actually the right tyre for your purpose from the Schwalbe range, the Continental GP4000 or Michelin Pro 3 Race would be a better choice.

and on what basis do you make that judgement? if it's based on your knowledge of CRR (coefficient of rolling resistance) you'll know you should be on Velo Flex Record or Bontrager Race X Lite Pro/Michelin Latex Tubes if you're not on FMB Silk Tubulars Criterium Tread ..

  • nope.
GP4000S and MP3R are some of the best clinchers around.

Rolling resistance is only one part of the equation - I wouldn't suggest Veloflex Record to somebody who thought the Ultremo met their requirements. We can all read the AFM tyre tests, which is why I just put a pair of Vittoria Ultraspeeds (with Mich latex tubes, natch) on my TT bike, but I wouldn't suggest them to somebody who wanted a road race tyre with a good balance of properties either.

  • The funny thing is, I get more rep for carping on this thread than for anything else. Nonetheless, if I knew what to do with it I'd definitely want one of these

oh dear me, had to bring this up in recent light of opinions being voiced ever so loudly, this.......... one of your more recent efforts, old bean,

    IS SHIT....

  • why is that a useless trike?

TBH it could use some adjustability. Still bloody lovely though.

  • Love this! Trick bike porn.

Agreed CRR is only part of the equation although as a tester it’s should be a big part of your equation .. weight, handling and puncture protection are also important for a road race tyre unless you have a yellow car behind you on every ride. But the GP4000! A pale cousin of the excellent GP3000s (they wear out very quickly) and all Conti’s square off too quickly, then the handling sucks, especially when a squared off tyre is on the front. The MP3R I’ve found loses grip catastrophically causing a slide (in a turn/braking) that I feared I might not recover from. Even though the GP3000s did not have the grip of the MP3Rs, at least they were very predictable when they lost traction. That’s just me opinion from using them of course ..
However, I agree there is far better choice’s out there then the Ultremo .. Vittoria Open Corsa, even Vittoria Rubino Pro's are bullet proof as well as an excellent training clincher.

Oh and I’m now running Veloflex Black: A great tire! Light, supple and nice rolling.

Just took those off my TT bike to try the Ultraspeeds; they're nice enough, but I've got the 320tpi Open Corsa CX II on my road bike, and they make Veloflex Blacks feel like tractor tyres. Obviously not as big a step as GP4000 -> Veloflex, but as the Vittorias can be had cheaper than the Veloflex they're a no-brainer when it comes time to replace your tyres.

  • mercian

  • its a strangely small world

i had not spoken to one of my best friends for a couple of years, turns out he is now riding fixed in Geneva and a mutual friend is one of the guys who runs Gorilla bikes

hmm tempted but have no reason to buy one

  • horible crank/chainring...
    GAFB
    (get a fucking bmx)

oh, and that just my humble opnion... ;)

  • high five

  • But it's all about the frame, innit?.. i personally have no likes when it comes to 700cmx's, but this frame
goes a bit beyond the all trickster thingy, IMHO. HIGH TEN

  • '700cmx'

    Jesus wept.

  • EDIT: Jesus, I'm a grumpy bitch tonight... ignore the above by all means!

    .

  • I didn't realise this, but gorilla are actually a side-project by Ciocc. After seeing the film about Mr. Ciocc at the BFF, i have the upmost respect for those guys.

  • I saw the pics of gorilla frames being weld at the ciocc factory in Italia, so they have to deserve some credibility.

  • £4500 for that? fucksake.

  • What's up with the bars, why have the drops been cut off? or are they bullhorns on upside down? or are they actually sold that way?

  • £4500 for that? fucksake.

New Mercian Vincitore Special 631 is £950 (maybe £1200 with weird paint that nobody but the current owner could possibly want). Athena 11sp alloy groupset from Shiny BIkes £500. Open Pro on Record handbuilt wheels up to £400. Cheap finishing kit per the advertised bike, £150 tops, plus a bit more for a Brooks if you must. So basically you could build a much nicer Vincitore Special for yourself, in the colours you want, for less than half the BIN price. This one has Gorgeous Baby Blue™ written all over it.
