haha i will do , and sorry to antagonise your ire mask, it just seems to make sense to mention that i've been having a similar problem given that both bikes are specialized.

Seriously all the info is in that list and it isn't be bike brand/model specific.
Tighten things up or take things apart and put them back together again, or take it to a bike shop.

Hello,
Recently built my first SS/fixie. I'm using a 16T Shimano freewheel on a Formula flip flop hub. I can hear a slowish taping when I'm pedalling; this doesn't happen when I'm freewheeling. I believe it also goes away slightly when under higher loads. Other than that, the bike rides perfectly.
Thanks for any advice...

stiff link at a guess.
-
• #665
Yeah it could well be actually. Do I just keep riding it to loosen them up!
-
• #666
No, find it by slowly watching the chain as it goes round the freewheel, look for the kink, then flex the chain side ways in your hands around the stiff link and / or tweak with it with a chain tool. There will be tutorials on line for removing it.
This all of course if that is what it is.

does it always happen when you're pedaling, or are there time that your bike is fully quiet while pedaling?
actually i think i misunderstood. It doesn't happen when you have your bike flipped to the freewheel? is that what you mean?
I'm curious because on my freewheel bike I get a strange continual clacking noise when i'm pedaling coming from the rear wheel. Only when pedaling. and even stranger, if i coast for a second and then pedal again, it goes away. Seems like it has to do with where exactly the pawls are engaged when i'm pedaling, and a quick coast moves to a new position. It's really very strange, but not loud enough to truly bother me.

I haven't ran it fixed yet. Just enjoying SS. I think its doing as you explain, its fairly quiet. Although I'm not sure if my chain is too tight, the sound of the chain does sound slightly agricultural when pedalling,

how old is the wheel?
check spoke tension. it could be the spokes rubbing/slipping against each other when torque is applied.
New wheels do tend to click a little bit as the spokes adjust to being ridden.

Ok, so today i was cycling through Deptford and stopped quite suddenly a pair of traffic lights when they changed, i did a small skid and all of a sudden my BB/Crank/pedal or SOMETHING made a very, very scary noise.... my bike is old and DIY, but it has never made noises like this before (Occasional creaks and groans) but this sounded like a tree being snapped in half...i carried on worried and stopped as soon as i could. i looked at the BB area and my cranks and pedals and stuff, but the frame wasn't cracked and they looked fine. The noise kept happening as i cycled home, every turn of the pedals sounded like a crappy halfords mountain bike changing gear and subsequently snapping in half...as halfords related products generally do...(Get to the point..) It is still making this noise every rotation of the cranks, and the noises increases if im going up hill or otherwise.
I am going to take it to a bike shop when i can and get someone to take a look at it, but was just wondering if any of you guys could recommend, resurrect or just be outrageously sarcastic...
thanks....
