  • He got DQ'd from a time trial a few years ago for too-narrow handlebars, and he has got away with riding illegal bikes in CTT events thanks to the absence of scrutineers, so either he doesn't know the rules or he deliberately, and sometimes successfully, sets out to cheat.

    I gather he's a decent bloke, and I admire both his athletic achievements and some of his innovative ideas about equipment and positioning, but he has always suffered from a lack of oversight by a competent outsider, probably because he is such an ornery bugger that nobody wants the job, and he won't ask.

    We all know the rules can be subject to interpretation. Look at the confusion over the UCI's current TT hardware rules. Anyway, so far as I can tell, this bike was used for a non-sanctioned 'fun' race so he could probably do whatever he wanted.
