Depends on your likelihood for multiple punctures and the amount of spare tubes that you're prepared to carry though. Besides, a patch kit can be useful for an impromptu booting in the event that you suffer a gouging rather than a puncture. I had a gatorskin taken out by a plastic fork once and was glad of both the spare tube and the patch kit.
